If there is anything in front ? (my magnetic balls)

I just thought that i would post a wee description of a shot i played last year. While out on a round with my brother last year i was get ready to tee off ,when i looked up and i saw a pheasant stroll out from the rashes about 50 yards away so i decided to wait to see if it was going to move away, after a bit shooing and arm waving it just seemed to be ignoring me .I said to my brother that if did'nt move it was going to end up with a ball rattled against ( i was only joking ) but non the less i decided to go ahead and tee off, so i stuck another fine daisy cutter only to look up and see my ball hit the pheasant we actually heard the thump as it struck into its body.and to both our suprise it took off into the rashes.as i also do a bit of hunting i am sure it probably died of shock later... i felt terrible for the rest of my round ..

Another time i was out with my friend and his girlfriend ( she wanted to learn to play ) anyway everything was going well .At one tee she decided to stand infront of the tee say about 5 yards and to the left of the tee .my partner was teeing up so i said to her that that was not a good place to stand so she retreated to behind the ball but she left her golf bag there thinking nothing of it..my playing partner play his shot strait of the toe and rattled her bag now that could have been her had i not said to her..

the moral of this story is that if there is anything in front of you its a sure thing that you are going to hit it , it seems to me that golf balls seem to have this magnetic thing to them inside them..so take it from me that if there is anthing in front of you wait for it to move out of harms way...

Seems that way for me too. If there is one lone tree, you can bet I'll hit it. It's very mental and I think I inadvertantly aim for crap I don't want to hit somehow. Now if I could just try to "not" hit the fairway, I'd be in business.

I had a close encounter with a golf ball one time from a off-the-toe drive. I was standing next to and about 5 yds behind the person on the tee but my bag cart was slightly in front of the teebox. When that ball came off the toe, it hit the handle on the cart (which busted it into a million pieces) and it came back at me. BARELY missed me... I mean if I had been another foot to the left, I would have caught it right in the baby makers...

There's actually a course in Waskesiu, that intentionally has a tree in the middle of the first fairway. There's a local rule pertaining to it, but I can't quite remember it.

Ive been hit 5 times now by golf balls.

Have never hit someone in front of me, actually my friends stand in front of me a lot and have never thought anything of it.

I almost hit someone once... I was soooo close, but he was running too fast up ahead and it landed right behind him (it was a teammate on my hs golf team that noone liked on a reachable par 4).

I hit somebody on the fly with a sliced drive before, he was coming over a hill and started to walk in the rough next to my fairway, and it hit him right in the hand. I did yell fore and he was on my hole even though he was playing another hole, so he wasn't mad because he knew it wasn't my fault.

Never have been hit, yet. And I always say "DO you really trust me that much?" when I play with my friends because they'll stand in a position where if I hit a low push they're screwed.

In one round of golf, my youngest son toed a drive that ricocheted off the tee box marker, my oldest son bounced one off the golf cart he had parked to far ahead of us, and I took out a window off to the side of a par 5 fairway. We still laugh about that day.

Driving up the the course last week in my uncles pickup truck, someone pulled a shot off the first tee and almost took out out windshield . we were at least 50 yards to the side of the fairway.

We have a couple of courses within 100 miles here in Aus with big 120 foot gum trees in the middle of the fairway.
Local rule is if your stuck behind em your shit-outta-luck and play around it mate.

That's usually the case..

From the site:
"Hole #1 Par 4
The lobstick tree is straight in front of the first tee. A local rule allows you to replay your ball if it hits the lobstick tree in mid-air."

And I assumed there was some history tied in with it, otherwise I don't see a need for the local rule and here it is:

"According to native legend, the tassle top "lobstick" tree, created by lopping off a series of branches below the top, was used as a navigational marker.
The practice continued with fur traders, early settlers, timber cruisers and prospectors in the area. In modern times the "lobstick" tree serves as a reminder of the areas rich historical past, and marks the beginning of a course rich in golfing adventure and tradition."

Funny you all should mention getting hit. Last Sunday my brother and I were golfing and on the 4th hole he hit his tee shot into the edge of a treeline. When he punched out the ball hit something, popped up and hit him on the cheek bone. Then on the back nine I was hitting a 6 iron across a pond to the green and he was on the side of a hill about 25 yards ahead and to the right of me. I normally hit my irons pretty well, but as I addressed the ball it popped in my head, "Huh, I wonder why he got in front of me like that?" Sure enough, I hit a low stinger that started slicing toward him. He took off running but ran in the same direction the ball was slicing and it pegged him right in the butt. So he got hit on two cheek bones in one round.

#12 at my home course has a huge pine just off center to the right in the fairway about 240 out. I always play dead at it with a slight draw. Haven't hit it yet, hope I never do.

There is no local rule, it was left there on purpose (#12 is a new hole on an old course).

My buddy broke his wife's ankle with a golf ball. She was standing off the toe of his club as he attempted to hit a 3W off the deck. He told her to move behind him because he often makes a hard-right off the toe in that situation. So she did. He proceeded to make his predicted off the toe shot, which then bounced off the edge of the cart path right back into her ankle behind him. She had to wear one of those space boots for a couple of months.

If he had left her standing where she was, the ball would've missed her.

I would love to hear someone beat these two:

1- Hit a cart path, and then land on top of a cart in the little crevass on top of it, AND STAY IN IT.

2- Put a ball straight into of a bag on a cart (like in the club holes at the top).

Have personally done both.

Playing with my brother-in-law one day whose poor shots are always slices. On the 18th hole he was on the left side of the fairway. My ball was a little further up and on the left side. I parked the cart facing the green about 10 yards ahead of him but way on the left side. He slices - so I should be safe right? Nope. Next thing I know the ball comes at me hauling the mail and passes through the space between me and the steering wheel of the cart.
