Pa Jayhawk is on a distinguished road
For me, I used to really have a hard time controlling my driver without really going after it because it would throw off my already poor timing and tempo. It took a really long time (a couple years) to be able to do so through changing my tempo. Now it is the other way around, and if I go after the ball my tempo suffers along with my control.

There may also be some real merit to the argument about the shaft being too stiff and adding to the problem. Where not just speed, but tempo is a factor in the type of shaft. If you have a quicker tempo you may require a stiffer shaft even if your speed is not 105mph. So at and 105mph and your current tempo, the shaft may be the right choice. However you need to consider if your speed is still 105 mph when you don't go after it, and are you using a smoother tempo. You no longer have the same swing that suits that shaft. Not saying that is the case, but it could certainly add to the issue in being able to adapt to the shaft characteristics on the new swing. Probably would have been much easier to convert to an easier swing had I made the choice to do so with a different shaft.

I still hit the ball almost as far on average as I used to, although because I do have a Swing Speed Radar system I know that it not because I still have a SS of 103mph, but instead because I am more regularly making clean contact. I may now benefit from a more lofted driver and more flexible shaft, but I am willing to sacrifice the yardage lost for the control I now have. Plus the speed is starting to come back with familiarity with the swing.

I think it made it easier to change when I had the constant reference on what it did with my speed, and I doubt I would have been able to do so without the SS Radar. Being able to realize that the equipment may have been playing part of the role and not just seeing that because I hit it the same distance, and assuming the speed was the same.
