You wanna hear a crazy round?

I played off the tips at Triggs this afternoon. Never have broken 90 off the tips. Started out with a borderline topped 3W and made a double. Parred 2 with a 6iron in that was as long as the nearly topped drive.

I played steadily, short game was on fire. On a short par 5 I tried to layup with a PW and chunked it into fescue, then chunked a GD 9iron as well. Carded a double.

Next hole is an uphill 200yd. par 3. I yanked a 3iron so far left it was in the fairway of a par 4. I hit the greatest shot of my life and that I've ever seen, anywhere. A full flop SW over a tree that was 4 stories high to 10ft. Virtually impossible shot. You'd have to see it to believe it and even then, see it again. Holed the putt and I was on a mission.

9th hole I blocked a drive, hit an 8iron over the trees, short left, shortsided. Pitched it over a bunker and holed it for birdie. 39 with 2 doubles on the par 35 front.

On the back I screwed up the par 5's again. There are 3 and I played them 6,6,7 as well as a 5 on nasty little par 3. Sitting at 36 with 3 par 4's to go.

Popped up a 3w on the 16th, dogleg left. I hit a massive high cut 9iron, almost threw my back out, onto the back fringe. I fecked up the downhill chip out off a downhill lie sitting in the junk and made a 5.

#17 is 2 cap but should be 1. Tight drive through the trees, uphill to a plateau and playing 412... more like about 430 IMO. I hit a drive up the left side just finding the 1st cut. Hit a 6 on and 2 putted for par. I'm still in it.

#18 is 410 dogleg left. I setup for a baby draw and guess who showed up.... quack, quack, Mr. f'ing duckhook. Thankfully it stayed on a bare lie far enough away from the tree in front of it to work with. From 205 I hit a trapdraw 3iron, hooked it around and onto the back fringe. I picked a spot, hit a perfect chip, she hit, rolled, broke right into the hole from 35-40ft.. Another birdie and an 83 off the blue monsters.

I guess this says something for the short game practice. No matter how many crap shots I hit, it's tough to go over 90 with 30 putts and 2 chip-in's, lol.

Wow man good job, sounds like an exciting round. Be careful when your doing that cut man, you dont want to throw out your back. And holes handicaps ( like the 1 handicap hole is not always the hardest hole)are not by difficulty, they are having to do with something about halving holes in Match Play. If you look online you could probably find out about what the holes handicaps actually mean. It was in Golf Digest maybe two months ago, but great round buddy.

Oh, I realize how it's done. It's just the #1 cap is the 3rd, 455 par 4 but it's an easy driving hole and the approach is downhill to a big green that slopes up. #17 plays uphill and they let all the trees grow in. You have to drive it "through the chute" to the uphill fairway. Plays a lot longer than 412. Plus the green is sloped slightly to the back, tough to hold. I'd hit a 3W on it but don't want to get stuck with a 5iron in on it. I'm shooting for a 7i in with driver.

#3 is probably harder for shorter hitters as there is a huge fescue mound and trees right. I usually hit it long enough for that stuff not to be in play. Even if I do go right, I can usually hit a big high cut 7 or 8 iron to the front. I don't think they ever put the #1 cap hole on the back 9 if I'm not mistaken.

the #1 cap hole has to be on the front.

Ezra, short game is always king. I shot a 75 today after only hitting 3 fairways and 8 greens. I only had 28 putts though and made 3 birdies.

Maybe, but it's #15 at the River Golf Club where I played yesterday.

I parred it and it felt like a birdie.

Played with my boss at Bay Hill in Nov'07. Front nine he shot 3 over. Ok nothing too crazy about that, except he did not have a 5, 6, 7 or 8 on his scorecard. He took a 9 on 6.

I'm gaining the ability to take the focus to a higher level. I put the pressure on and I score better now it seems. Front 9 I made the double on 6. I dug deep and saved par on 7, nailed a drive to 100 out and made par on 8 and holed the pitch for birdie on 9. On the back I finished out bogey, par, birdie after the double on 15. It all started that day at Exeter when I dug in and shot 81. The "old me" would have figured out how to shoot a 92 yesterday, instead of blowing it or evening limping it in for an 87-88, I went lower.

I am no longer worried about jinxing... I think I have something resembling a golf swing now. No more timing the squaring of the clubface. Hopefully it lasts. I'll be at the range tomorrow and Thurs. for my swing drills and short game practice.

Seriously Ezra, do not taunt the Golf Godz. I thought I was a lock to win my flight in a tournament the other week after shooting 37 on the front nine (that side could have easily been a 34 or 33) only to have the Godz smite me with a smooth 46 on the back to shoot an 83 to end up tied for 6th. First place was a 78 so even a 40 on the back would have won the thing.

Do not tempt them with any "I've got it now talk".

it's definitely a good score at triggs. we just gotta dig little deeper and be in 70s or lower consistantly
