Swing Video - Please view!

Here is my swing, taken 6/8.

6 iron and driver. DTL and face-on.

One thing I immediately noticed on the both the face-on swings is how my arms collapse on the follow through. Ughh, talk about ugly. How I can improve that(tips, drills, swing thoughts)?

My stance is usually slightly closed, although it looks really closed in these shots. Reviewed the videos before I left the course tonight and then cheked my stance with a club and it was normal, could be the camera angle. Need to work on squaring it up, but just feels more comfortable closed for some reason.

The driver DTL was a slight hook, figured it would be a good one to post since I've been battling a hook lately(a result of the poor follow through?).

Any other thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Nice vids there. First thing I notice that I'd mention is the transition through the ball. You seem to have a fairly decent takeaway, and square back to the ball, but then you fire yours arms and wrists through the ball with no chest movement before impact.

What sort of a shape do you hit normally? I think I'd like to see you lead with the upper body rather than whipping the hands through the ball.

However, I'm not one to preach as I'm useless with my swing. Great looking swing, and please don't take too much advice or you'll get too many thoughts!!!!!

Sounds like you are making really good contact with the ball.

Some of the members here use the site. It's a great tool, you can analyze your swing in slow motion, draw lines, etc...

My normal shot shape is right to left. But it gets a little hooky now and then.

I posted this on another forum and someone commented how close I am to the ball with my 6i (noticeable on the DTL shot). I'm thinking this could be the reason for lack of extension/follow through and being really armsy.

Thanks for the input. any other thoughts are greatly apprecaited.

Do you have a high ball flight?

Another thing that stood up is how much your head moves during the swing. Especially at impact, your head raises a bit. It almost seems like you are afraid to hit the ball fat, so you are lifting your body/head and almost pulling your arms up.

Oh Yes, high ball flight. Although I have lowered it a little within the past year or so.

As far as being afraid to hit it fat (LOL) I've been golfing for 4 years, the first 2 years were spent hitting the ball fat, every damn shot. So yeah, there may be some fear to overcome there......

Not enough body in the swing - it's very arms orientated.

It will be much better for analysis if you stick it on SwingAcademy as said previously.

As for a drill - swing one handed (left arm) - that should help you to find the feel of a straight left arm to impact and release.

You are looking for this position - see how Luke has driven through the ball with his body (how open his hips are) and kept his left arm nice and straight.



If that fails and you suck at golf find this girl and get her into a similar position, you'll soon forget about your swing

From my view it is an alignment problem to start with and therefore this then affects the rest of your swing, looking at where the fairway is your shoulders are aimed down your taget line and your feet are way right of that target line, also the same in your 6 iron as well, it may feel comfortable but it is the root cause of all your problems.

This causes your body to react in two ways, your backswing swings along the line of your feet which brings the club way inside the intended start path of the ball, and then on the way down your body reacts to your shoulder alignment by way of a re-route over the top and this gets the club outside of the backswing path resulting in a shut face attack from outside the ball to target line, this is why you look cramped at impact due to your body not being able to make room for the club to swing into and then the release of the club relies on manipulation of the hands through the impact area.

I would suggest that you practice solely your alignment for your next few sessions and you will be amazed how much easier it will be.

I put something in about setup on Swingacademy. Setting up with the hips forward and shoulders back will get you into a reverse K setup. As soon as you do this you'll notice the club is already preset with hands ahead of the ball. This will help with your turn and help a ton with the fat shots.

From the DTL view I see you are right on top of ball. Going back to the face on, you have to stall and make such an effort to get inside to hit it that there is very poor extension through the ball and a wristy/handsy move to hit and turn club over.

I'm going to try to find a video of someone doing a drill called 9-3. It's what I've been working on at the range with great success.

The 9-3 is near the end. Cool video. Notice the setup angles and extension. Also note, you'll see it at the end with Tiger and before him with a student, how the body just releases the clubhead to the left. No need for any hands, arms, anything, just let the rotation swing the club to the left.

I'd recommend getting into the reverse K and hitting a lot of sand wedges, PW's, 9i's using a 9-3 swing. I found that after a few range sessions I could go 9-3 with an 8iron and hit it 160 on the fly... with a 3/4 swing. It's all do to the extension, letting my hips and lower body hit the ball, getting good compression of the ball and letting the clubhead effortlessly release itself.

Now, granted, most mortals are not anywhere close to that flexible. That said, look where his belt buckle is pointing. And he hasn't hit the ball yet! I'd break my spine if I tried to turn my hips that far, but it's a good picture to keep in your head.

Side note: Bubba hit this shot on a straight uphill, 320 yard par 4 and put it on the back of the green.

Although i think that the 9-3 drill is a good one, it is maybe not the source of his problem, i think the way he is set up doesnt help, but his hips are already pre-turned a little by standing shut, and when you add in the normal hip turn it creates not a great x factor at the top due to lack of lower body resistance due to overturning early on, his body is reacting to the target by trying to swing towards it which causes the re-route and makes him look trapped at impact, getting correct alignment will help and also firming up his leg action will help, and will more than likely shorten his arm swing.

The reverse K setup is similar to Gary Edwins way of thinking and is maybe not the correct set up dynamics for someone his size.
