Ball Position

Thought this would be an interesting poll since I've seen good golfers tee the ball in different places for the DRIVER. Keep this limited to the DRIVER please.

Where do you tee the ball? Off your left heel or middle of stance (or somewhere else)? And WHY? Give some reasons....

I currently tee in the middle but might have to switch if I get more lower body into my swing...

Off the left heel (im a righty). Always been comfy on the eye there for alignment and posture. Also gives me the best chance of hitting a goodun just on the upswing for desired launch/flight characteristics. (ie MELT ONE!)

Depends on what type of shot that I am trying to play, for a normal shot I will play it just off the left heel. When I want to hit a cut, I move it up to even with the toe, this helps me hold the release for a cut. To hit a draw I back it up about an inch to force myself to release the club a bit sooner.

i like to place the ball a little more str8 on w/ my left toes. Only reason i guess, cause i can get a little more power from the swing im used to. I dip pretty deep, and i did some slow motion video's of myself (which i highly recommend doing) and the strongest point of my impact was at the toes. Moving the ball a couple inches left, i was able to get 10 more yards minimum.

Play the ball on my left heal. If I play it in the middle of my stance I just don't feel like I can get to the ball without being really late.

Off left heel, or somewhere in that vicinity, anyway.

Goodness, warbirdlover, the middle for a driver? A modern driver? No wonder you're having problems!

Doc, I'd like to introduce you to a couple guys I golf with who crush the ball and tee it in the middle of their stance. I go back and forth between off the left heel and middle (actually a little more toward the heel) and currently get the best results (distance and straightness) there. I don't believe you can say one place for all because everyone's swing is different. Look at the pros on TV. They all don't hit the driver off their left heel. Just for the heck of it try it once.

And I've FIXED my problems last night on the range.

I play the ball almost outside my left foot with a slightly open stance. (im a righty). I've always played this way and I tee it high. I like to catch it on the upswing but of coarse it adds loft.

I could take a vid of Tiger and insert my head on him and you'd find some flaw in it.... don't hold your breath!!!

Actually when I can get someone to go with me with our new video camera I want to do this so I can use it to improve.

I think I could tell the difference. Seriously. After all, people come in with their aged, decrepit dogs and $5, all the time, and expect me to be able to tell them exactly what's wrong with them just by looking at them.

So, I tell them: "Killer is old and tired, kind of like some of the golfers I play with. His best days are behind him, but with some of this dog medicine every day, he should be able to get around well enough to be able to eat, drink, and pee on bushes. You know, like this picture of this guy from Wisconsin, or Michigan, or one of those other Yankee states."

And they look at warbirdlover's swing picture montage, and then they look at Killer, and they nod, and say "OK, we'll do whatever it takes, as long as it's not more than $5, and when he starts looking as bad as this guy does, we'll bring him in for "the shot". By the way, did you have to go to school to be a viturnery?"

And I tell them "Naw, just a 6 week correspondence school."

That seems to satisfy them.
