New Personal Best Today

I have been hovering at the 95-100 level for just over a year with only a couple of rounds of 94.

Did some mental analysis last night and tried to spot some recurring weaknesses. There are many; but the most obvious ones involve the fairway woods and the putter. Today, I left the fairway woods in the bag and used the 3I for my longer fairway shots. I replaced my mallet putter with a Tad Moore blade putter. I also changed my putting stroke. I normally use the Pelz recommended pendulum stroke with the mallet; but today, I switched to the arc.

The switch to the 3I was good to go from the start of the round. I wasn't hitting it as far as the fairway woods; but it was going where I aimed. The change in putter and putting stroke was somewhat awkward at first. (I didn't go to the practice green before starting the round.) I had a few putts that missed because of the changes on the first few holes; but it slowly started to feel more natural and putts started dropping. I managed to shoot a 50 on the front nine, even though I had blown some very makeable putts earlier.

The back nine came together for me and I shot a 43 and carded a new personal best of 93 for the round.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased. I usually shoot lower on the front nine than the back side; but that didn't happen today. I'm not overly concerned about that; because I know the change of the putting game was at fault. Hopefully, my putting will continue to improve as I become more familiar with the new putter and stroke change....or not.

I'm impressed at how you sat down to analyze your game. I've done that a long time ago but not lately. I ended up with only a 3-wood and two hybrids instead of long irons when I did.

Oh yeah. And also a blade putter!!
