Reason #147 why I'm not a pro golfer......

is that on a throretical comparison of my 5 wood vs. my 3 wood, I actually hit the 5 wood longer off the deck!

85mph swingspeed , -4° angle of attack >

18° 5 wood = 203 yards carry
15° 3 wood = 197 yards carry

This friggin sux.

On a tee, where I can "let her rip", ha-ha, I can hit the 3 wood longer. That's the only reason it's still in the bag.

Even more reason to join the rest of us dumping the 3 and 5-wood, and bagging a 4-wood.

I have to agree with Eracer here. I have done it again, recently, and have finally found a 4 wood that will allow me to stay with the move this time. Last time, it did not work out so good and I got TEE-itis.

Dang. I hit my 17* 5W about 225 off the deck and the 13* about 245 off the deck. If it's any consolation I carry the 3W further off the deck than my driver but the driver rolls out to longer.

Without the aid of a tee, which will increase effective loft you simply dont have sufficient swing speed to hit a club with loft as low as 15* optimally. This is the same reason many people hit their 3 wood as far or farther than their driver. Its all about optimal launch conditions.

I dumped the 5w & carry a 3 & 4w. My 4 iron goes just as far as the 5w did & is more consistent.

I had a 980F 4w, 17°, and I got to where I couldn't hit it either.

So now, I hit my 18° Exotics 5 wood or my 20° Nickent 3hybrid off the deck and I'll just have to be happy with that.

I'm in my 4th year of playing golf, and my swing is still something that changes every day. Usually not for the better.

Could be worse... I hit my 1 iron 230-240y and straight. I hit my driver further, but in a large arc to the right, winding up about 230 to 240 from the tee. I also hit my 3w (straighter) about that same distance. Why do I carry three clubs that go the same distance? :dunno:

at least this isn't the reason why i'm not a pro golfer.

i know for a fact that i have the swingspeed for 300yd drives.
i know for a fact that i can reach 240yd w/ my 3W but not 5W
i know for a fact that i can only reach 240yd w/ my 5W only when i catch it clean and swing out of my socks.

LOL I know what you mean. I hit my driver, 3 iron and 3 hybrid all about 240 yards, no idea why I need all 3.

I used to play a 13* 3w and a 5w. The 5w was old like 20 years old and wood. So I got myself a 17* hybrid and a 21* hybrid toward the beginning of this season. Could not tell a huge difference between the clubs. Then I got a new 3w at 15* and dumped the 17* hybrid. I got a 5w in a trade. Then still did not see much of a difference in the 5w and the 21* hybrid. So the the 5w is out of the bag. I have a gap of 15* to 21*, but don't really mind it.

I have a 10.5 degree driver and my next club is a 21* hybrid

I can hammer the 3W off the tee, but from the FW I just hit the hybrid better and just as far, I am considering dumping the 3W altogether, laying up on all par 5's... and just using my vokey weapons of mass destruction
