315 - Drove Green... with 3W

The highlight of my crappy round today. Downhill dogleg left and I hit a big high draw 3w and drove the green, 2putted for birdie. 1st round since the tendoniditis. Pulled a lot of tee shots on the front but settled down by 7 where I hit the fairway with a cut. 579 par 5 8th I actually hit a driver draw. I tried driver off the deck but cut it too much, SW from RR onto the green no prob. though.

Really the irons were a bit off and the short game was crappy, that was my downfall. Too many bogies and doubles where I should have been cleaning up pars and bogeys. Over 90 again, 48-47. Gotta start working on the chipping putting again.

Twofast had a good round. His short game was as good as I've seen it. He shot 80 despite a less than spectacular round off the tee. He did that TLT on his irons and hit them pretty well today.

Yeah, we played Fenner Hill today. Very tough greens. Fast, sloping and the friggen mountain it's built into the side of effects putts a lot. I left myself in bad spots a lot. There are actaully 2 315yd. par 4's on the back. The 1st I tried to drive as well with 3W and was a yard or 2 shy of clearing the pond in front. I started it too far right and tried to draw it back, it drew nice but short. I used Twofast's old Sonartec 60* today as well. I got a feel for it a few times on the back, think I'm going to bag it.

Sure, that would be great. There are a few places to choose from. Fenner easy to get on though usually and not too bad pricewise. It's only 6600 and change but a 134 slope. It's got plenty of risk/reward par 4's... really only like 3 of them aren't. I think 4 of them are drivable or almost drivable down the hills with a perfect shot-shape.

I have only played with two people that can hit it that far and its a pleasure to see a ball go 100 yds past anything I can hit. You don't appreciate until you see it in person.

That ball gets small fast at that distance.

It's well downhill. Basically it's set up to hit like a 3i or 5W straight out then hit a SW or GW in from 80-100yds. I just hit it over the treetops with a big draw and hit the green. I can't carry that club but a little over 250 ripped. It was just a nice flush shot on the right line. I actually found it pretty easy to set up for my eye so I may try it all the time now. I'll see if there is anything online as to a picture of it.

Let's see if this works Fenner Hill Golf Club - Hope Valley - Rhode Island

It's hole #17. That's an aerial view, from the teebox you can't even see the left bunker at all, much less the green. The right bunker is nearly exactly on the 100marker. The whole course is like that, lots of holes you can't see the green from the teebox and quite a few you never see your tee shot land period. I usually hit my tee shots well as I just aim for a tree in the distance and let it fly.

No wonder your handicap isn't better. Only an idiot would go after that green! You need to get your ass some course management!

Pretty course, BTW.

It's the 1st time I've ever tried it. I knew I wasn't breaking 90, had a 7 on a par 3 before that (bladed SW and an unplayable gone wrong) and figured why the heck not see where it ended up. I also missed driving 15 with the 3W by a yard or 2. Put it into the pond, dropped and made a bogey. At that point I was still trying to salvage the round, lol.

If you think that's bad, I hit a perfect drive with a draw on the 8th hole down the left side. Then tried a driver off the deck from a nice fairway lie 270 out, lol. Still hit the GIR with a SW after slicing the piss out of the driver... mad good contact, just cut it across the entire fwy. and most of the rough.

But look at your last shot.

Why in the holy hell would you go for that?

I do stupid stuff when the round goes to crap, too. Two weeks ago, I went after a par 5 in two. Needed to carry the second shot 250 to clear the water. That's all of a three wood off the deck for me. But the hole is 540, so only having 250 left almost never happens. So, why not?

Hit it perfect, little cut that carried to the pin, and stayed on the green. Eagle putt from 25 feet. It made me come back again.
