Tee box variations

Why do they do this? Is there a reason?

A par 4 hole is listed as 400 yards from the white tees on the scorecard and tee marker. The fairways are soaking wet trying to keep the grass alive in this Georgia heat, so there is zero roll.

I hit a "big" (for me) drive out to 230 yards carry. The ball is covered in mud and it has barely moved from the plug hole it made. According to the GPS, I have 215 yards left. For me thats a 3 wood off the deck. Yech. My least favorite shot in golf.

Using all of my fingers and toes, a la Jethro Bodine: naught plus five is five, three plus one is four, two plus two is four, I get 445 yards. That's a greater than 10% variance!

So I hit the 3 wood off the deck, and finally hit a good one. Landed on the front half of the green, and pin was on the back.

Missed the long birdie putt.

So anyway, why do they do that? Why move the tees around enough that the yardages are off that much?

To piss off golfers that can only drive the ball 230yds

Moving the tee's is needed so that there is always grass at the tee. Otherwise we would hve to hit off of dirt after about a week of play from one spot in the box...but you already knew that i am sure. The tee's shouldnt have to move them THAT far...

Are you color blind and play from the whites instead of the reds on that hole?

To save the tee boxes and the greens and to make you think about
distances and conditions.

The whole tee box is only about 15 yards long. They had to move the white marker from the middle tee box to the front of the longest one. Seems strange to me.

The course length for the white tees is rated at 6376 yards. I think that is a decent length for middle aged amateurs, especially on a wet course with no roll. I'd rather play from there than have to hit 3 shots in on a par 4.

Which was my point to begin with. JEFF!

And I can drive the ball more than 230 yards, I just need a firmer fairway to do it. Or a tailwind. Or preferable both. And downhill.

No wonder we're getting all this rain up here. You guys down there are evaporating it back into the atmosphere watering your greens!! I would think if they are watering them SO much that the balls plug they are getting a little carried away.

Not all the courses are watering this much. Gordon Lakes has 3 small lakes and 1 huge lake, so they have a natural supply. Plus, they are on an Army reservation, so their costs are low.

Lots of widlife, though.

I saw one of these on Lake #4 yesterday and I thought I was going nuts. Thankfully somebody else saw it too.

I don't know for sure, but I think ANGC now allows male squirrels of any color and national origin, as long as they can afford the initiation fee.

And are invited to join by the membership committee, of course.
