balls

anyone actually notice the difference between brands of balls? i usually think there can't be that much of a difference. but today i had a few topflites and decided to buy some nike's at the clubhouse. i really didn't think it'd be much of a difference, but there was one!

i hit the topflites a decent ways for me. about 250-275. then i used a nike ball on the 10th hole. it's a 330 yard par 4. i drove and it was only about 15-20 yards short of middle of the green.

i thought maybe it was just a fluke. then i hit a drive just to the right of the green on the 11th hole. a 290 yard par 4.

i really didn't expect this so it wasn't in my head or anything. but hey, i'll take it if it keeps happening!

anyone else ever had something like this happen?

Me too!

Being new to golf the cheaper balls caused no pain when I shot them over the fence or into the water. As my scores improved I decided to play a "better" ball. I tried the V1's and others and the scores came down.
I finally settled on the Nike Power Soft due to cost and Wally World here has them on the shelf. The scores are still coming down and I feel the better balls do make a difference.
I know it makes me feel better....thats all that really matters.

the cheaper balls were what i always went for. sometimes even used ones lol. but, i figure i'll keep buying these and see if it's just some luck or if it actually matters.

Different balls make a HUGE difference. Moreso than different clubs. The Nike PD Soft is a very good ball for the money. Top Flite D2 Feel is also very good. Bridgestone E6+, for 25$ a dozen, is stellar too.

I don't believe this for a second.

A minor difference, at best. My best example? That 64 I shot 2 years ago, was with a Nike 15 dollar ball. Why?

Because the game was good, not the balls.

I don't notice a BIG difference in length between various balls, I can hit a Prov1x just as far as an NXT Tour or a (insert random ball here).... but I can sure as hell tell the difference around the green. Especially pitching and chipping when you need to put on the brakes!

i don't notice too much off of the clubs, but i do feel the difference w/ my wedge and putter, more so w/ putter.

i don't think the ball makes the difference in scores but it allows you to play your shots differently. w/ premium balls, i can get little bit more aggresive, and control the ball better around the green for check and release.

The difference in golf balls comes in two areas - spin off of the driver and spin off of the wedges.

I play the taylormade Burner TP because it caries forever, is soft enough that a full wedge can stop it cold on the green, and with the new vokey spin milled wedge I was ripping the cover off of the more expensive, thinner cover, golf balls.

In the end it all depends on where you save your strokes, and how you do so. If you play a lot of spin watch out for the more expensive top of the line balls you can actually spin the covers right off of them. If you hit almost no spin I would recommend trying something with a thinner urethane cover.

Wouldnt the ability to control the ball better have a direct effect on your ability to score lower? If so, then technically the ball does make a difference in scores..

I need all the help I can get, and finding a ball that doesn't spin sideways off the driver, but spins enough to at least stay on the green, is a challenge. I am very sensitive to the differences between balls.
