First time back after a 9 month break

Well I stopped playing for the past 9 months, because me and my wife bought a house and I had to do some major renovating and all the labor was done by myslef. Needless to say that left me no time to play golf. We just moved into our home and I can finally get back to playing, but man do I wish I never stopped.

When I took a break I was shooting in the high 80's with 84 being my lowest. Yesterday I went to the range and hit a bucket and a half of balls. I knew my ball striking was nowhere near where i left off, but I went to the course anyways.

First hole with my driver the ball took a major hook. My driver was one of my best clubs:( anyways, what's frustrating me the most is the fact that I seem to be hitting all my irons very FAT and that is making me very angry lol. I can't seem to figure it out, I've tried messing with ball positioning. One of the guys I was playing with said I have to shift my weight forward, but i'm not sure what that means.

Anyways I shot a 48 after 7 holes and then it was too dark to play. I will take a video of my swing the next time i'm at the range so hopefully you guys can help me. In the mean time are there any drills or things to be aware of so I can hopefully fix this? Thanks.

    Gary Player "step-through" drill.

Google it, live it, love it...

Thanks for the reply. I watched a video on how to do this drill, but it was short and didn't really explain what this drill does when you go back to hitting the ball regularly without "stepping through." By doing this drill will I just automatically readjust my weight transfer when I go back to hitting it regularly? It may be a dumb question or observation but it just doesn't seem like it will do anything when I go back to my regular swing and follow through. Sorry in advance if my observation is wrong, which it probably is.

Hitting fat is often caused by a reverse pivot, i.e. not having a proper weight transfer. the drill gives you the feel of getting your weight through the ball at impact. Like many drills, it is meant to exaggerate the proper motion. As you practice it, try to imagine that you are swinging normally, and your weight is carrying you towards the target. Once you can do this - and you would be surprised how many people have a really hard time with it - you can start finishing with your weight on your front foot. This drill, more than any other, helped me understand what a good weight transfer felt like.
