Putting x-handed

Been trying this today for the time properly. I've had a few goes before but not really in any seriousness. Inspired by Padraig I suspect.

I think I like it, feels more solid over shorter putts escpecially. The left arm feels more like a steering device than when I putt conventionally and I think this instills confidence.

Who else here putts left below right (if right handed obv) and if so what made you change?

I'm playing tomorrow and will give it a try, I'll report back then.

I have tried it on the practice green with great success on shorter putts...however i am terrible with anything over 10ft...cant even come close cross handed...

I just cannot bring myself to switch putting strokes on the same green(regular for longer lag putts, but xhanded for shorts) idk why but i just cant...

I went to this about a month ago because I couldn't keep the ball on my chosen line. First two nines I played after getting used to it I had 14 putts both rounds. It's working even much better now and rarely have any 3-putts anymore. This weekend I got to the course early so spent an hour alternating between both left hand low and normal grips. The left hand low grip definitely keeps me on line better.

Now I'm just having problems finding the line

I have been putting his way for a few years now. I switched in an effort to putt better, no real thought behind it i just tired it and it seemed to work.

I have since tried puttig regular but it seems for foriegn to me now.

I've attempted it but can't figure out how the heck to grip the putter like that.

Haven't really tried.. I might give it a whirl on the practice green one morning if I'm feeling frisky. I could see how you have more control, and feel like you could "steer" a little better.

Perhaps the added feel of keeping from turning the face, and pulling/pushing.

It also keeps you from breaking your wrists.

I've used a cross-handed grip for longer than I can remember, so at least 15 years. In fact, I'm not sure I ever putted "regular handed", so possibly as many as 20 years.

It just works.

I have really thought about trying this putter style as my putting is the worst aspect of my game. I am still working with the new putter that I have recently gotten and if dont see any improvement I will be switching.

I do feel a much more confident, smooth stroke on the short putts

fwiw... my left hand is in a normal position but turned towards my left, with all four fingers parallel, with the thumb on the shaft. My right index finger is laid straight down the putter shaft, and my right thumb sits on top of my left wrist.

I don't know if that is how anyone else does it, but that has always worked for me. It essentially eliminates any wrist hinge, and forces me to swing by turning my shoulders.

Well, tried it today on the course. Pretty good - couple of 3 putts from distance but to be expected first time out but I did make several 4-10 footers and was solid from the "silly miss" range of 2-3 feet.

I'll be perservering with it and see how it goes.

Summary:

Long range: Mixed results, found these putts to be a bit odd x-handed but then again I don't practice that range as much as I don't have room indoors.

Mid range: Good. Holed one long putt, lipped one and a couple stone dead. Holed 3-4 8 footers.

Short: Slotted the lot. This is where I feel this technique helps me most.

I switched last year. I had switched before that but just on and off for a few rounds trying it out. At the beginning of the year last year I just decided one day on the practice green I was gonna do it. 2 golf seasons down, and haven't even thought about switching back. Just seems much more solid on the short stuff to me, and I feel like I put a better roll on the ball so I have good distance control on long putts.

I tried today. ball went right past the hole a good few feet. Aim was spot on, but the distance was off a bit.

If the aim was spot on, the ball should have gone in the hole.
