Thread: More putting fixes

  1. More putting fixes

Still in a putting funk so started "analizing" why.

I started out putting "lights out" with the Spider. Then I followed Lyle's lead by changing the 4g weights to 10g. Seemed to not make a big difference. Only gripe I have with the Spider is the "busy" top which doesn't lend itself well to allignment.

The heavier weights appear to may have gotten me into "rapping" the putts instead of "stroking" the putts.

So the 4g weights are going back in and I'm going to be really trying to stroke them instead of rapping them.

If this doesn't work I'm going to be looking at a SC Circa 62 or Studio series for next year... :faintthud

    Wish me luck...

Whats with the poll? Are you planning to use the results to blame us if you still can't putt?

WBL - "I was leaning to the 62 but everyone voted for the Studio and now I can't put fershit. I knew I should have got the 62."

Seems like a big change, from a spaceship-lookin' mallet to a blade-style putter.

However God-like Lyle may be, that longer paragraph gives it away. Go back to the 4g weights and stick with the Spider.

  6. 4g weights are in. It better work for the Spider's sake...

And last night I hit 5 of 9 GIR, almost drove 2 par fours. Creaming the driver straight and (for me) long, hitting the irons great (but apparent allignment problem landing just right on some greens), and putted all over the greens. Started bogey (after almost driving the green), par, 3-putt 7, 3-putt 5 (par 3), birdie (after almost driving the green and chipping to 2 feet), bogey, bogey, bogey and bogey. Still another 45. Very frustrating. :(

Didja' ever think that it might be the puttee and not the putter? I gave up swapping putters years ago when I figured out that I was probably putting as good as my talent would allow. I wasn't willing to put in the effort required for any improvement.

Last week I had 6 one putts in a row. This week I may have 6 three putts in a row. The point is that the one putts and the 3 putts are all from the same putter.

  9. It seems to me that you're changing more than one variable when you make these big putter changes. In each case you're not only changing the style of head but also the style of putting it is desgined for (eg pendelum vs. arc).

You've GOT to be kidding! Yes, it has crossed my mind. If it hadn't I've had gone through 6-10 putters by now. :( And I've been doing nothing in my free time but working on my putting. And the putter better match my pendulum stroke. I've had both blade and mallet style work with it. For awhile...

  13. warbirdlover, if you absolutely, positively, refuse to take a putting lesson, or God forbid, go for a putter fitting, then consider this:

take all of your putters to the course with you; before playing a round, putt 6 balls with each putter; that day, play the putter that makes the most putts.

keep a record of which putter performed the best over 3 months.

soon, you will be over this putter fixation, and you can start ho'ing drivers again.

You're having a confidence problem, WBL, plain and simple. I suggest making about 100 three-footers in a row on the practice green.
