"Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf"

Seriously. Take the winter to study this stuff and make proper grip and stance second-nature. 80% of the golf swing is the setup. If you set up correctly, you have to work really hard to do something destructive.

The other 20% of the swing is weight shift and rotation. Anything else is damage.

I did feel EXACTLY this way a few weeks ago. I had a long discussion with another member here, Augster (my mentor!) about it. Yet here I am. Stop PLAYING. Go to the driving range until your comfortable holding the club again. I seriously recommend "Five Lessons" and also "The Natural Golf Swing," which were recommended here by Augster, matter of fact. They really will change the way you look at golf, and the swing.

We all make it a lot harder than it needs to be.

That's what she said.

Well, I'm playing today. Off to Triggs in a few minutes. 6600/130 slope Donald Ross course. I get on for $22.50 as a resident. Can't beat it.

I actaully got a little motivation to play yesterday. We ended up driving by the course I learned to play on. It's being all redone into a 7000yd. course. I saw a few of the planned holes including a 650yd. par 5 a few years ago. I thought they weren't making much progress but yesterday drove by the back side. Saw teeboxes for one hole, like 4 of them lined up like a tier. Then uphill and fairway cutting R to L between the trees at 230-240yds.. I know the old layout and it's the 8th hole backwards, probably using 7 green, making an uphill to downhill 390-410yd. par 4.

Are you talking about Meadowbrook? I drove by there a couple of months ago and there was some serious earth moving going on.

Yes. I was worried they might give up and build condos instead but they're definitely following through. I wonder when it will be done? It's going to be a serious course when they are done.

Oh, my round today. 92 with 36putts. Short game was not good at all. Surprisingly my tee shots were pretty good and I hit a ton of drivers. Only teed off twice on par 4's without driver. I blocked the first drive of the day and every other one was draw. Mostly big draws. I started taking it way out over the right side and drawing it back 20-30yds. into the fairway. Overall, not a terrible round. Could have just as easily been low 80's if not for the terrible chips and pitches. I found myself flipping at a few of the pitch shots, very unlike me.

BTW, don't ask me how the heck I'm drawing the driver. I've got right hand grip so weak it's pointing left of my chin. 2knuckles on the left.

It's probably your LEFT hand grip.

Yeah, but the "2 knuckles on the left" is consistent with that.

Don't get me wrong, I know why I'm drawing it, just more or less shaking my head and laughing at how weak a grip I was doing it from. It's just a swingpath draw. Swing was very in to out today. After figuring that out I just played it. Tee shots were hardly the problem though.
