    Indoor Lesson

As some of you know, I've been struggling with my fw's. I recalled a new place that opened up in the area. In View Golf, I think they are a chain? Anyway, it's basically an indoor driving range with monitors and a couple of certified PGA Instructors. WTF, why not, I'm getting desperate.

He has me start off with my 6 iron, watches me take a few swings, then tells me to strengthen my grip a tad, drop my right shoulder down some which will kick the shaft of the club forward at address and improve my spine alignment. I hit a few more balls, dayum, this feels good. Making much better contact with the ball. He shows me my swing on video and asks me what do I see? Wow, my head is moving back and forth a lot. Seems I was over rotating and my left shoulder was pushing my head backwards at the top of my swing. And my spine angle was tilting because of it.

He tells me I have enough knowledge of the golf swing mechanics apparently, so whatever I felt would correct the problem do it. So I shortened my backswing and Ureka, felt even better. 6 iron clubhead speed was in the 90-93 range and distance 160-165.

He hands me my 3 wood now. Rut roh Raggey, here we go. I set up the way I was with the 6 iron, just not quite as much shaft tilt, shortened back swing. 1st couple of swings felt soso. He tells me to hit down a little more, not as much as an iron, but more so than with a driver. The following balls jumped off the face, according to the monitor, SS 95-98, distance 225-240.

Finally, the driver. I had taken the HiBore XL 9.5º with the Matrix Code 6 stiff. Swing speed 100ish, 99-105 was the range. Launch angle varied from 11.6 to 13.5. Distance 250 - 265. He said the driver and shaft match my swing perfect.

So now I have some things to work on, stop over rotating my shoulders, shorten my back swing, strengthen my grip and drop my right shoulder a bit. Too bad its supposed to rain everyday till Saturday here.

Sorry, no swing videos, I'll have to buy a zip drive and take it up there to load my swing onto. I'll grab one soon and let ya'll get a good laugh. Actually, my swing didn't look that bad, I was pleasantly surprised. I almost look like I know what I'm doing,

Glad to hear it went well. I think I'm going to be taking some as well. Pretty much the polar opposite of indoor. I'm going to be working with this guy they call "Joe Rags" who hangs around Triggs. He's about 82 and caddied for pros back in the day. The guy is so spot on it's ridiculous. He picked apart my takeaway and found my biggest fault right away. Looking forward to having him give my swing a little rebuild.

    Re: Indoor Lesson

Well, I played 18 today trying my new technique and swing thoughts. I shot an ugly 94. But I think I saw a ray of sunshine. I think I was over doing the corrections on the course the front 9.

By the back 9 I was crushing my long to mid irons. I mean, hitting 3 and 4 irons as pure as possible. Straight as as arrow and a beautiful flight. Even the driver started coming around on the back 9. Hopefully a few more rounds with the new stance and backswing and I'll figure out exactly where the ball is going to go.

I even hit several good fairway wood. By that I mean the ball was getting off the ground and going the distance it should have, just not exactly the direction. Maybe once I figure out exactly where to aim it, I'll be able to hit it where I want it to go?

Apparently I'm going to hit a cut/fade with my driver and fw's, and hit it dead straight with my long irons, a slight draw with the short irons, I just have to learn to trust it and aim accordingly.
