    Putting still sucking

Played 18 at The Meadows of Sixmile Creek in Waunakee. Played with other guys, Ernie & Paul who were not very good golfers but they were fun to be with. Anyways the FT-i was once again good & solid & my approach shots really were better today & I managed 7 GIR's. Shot a 44 on the front & a 42 on the back for a tidy 86 but I had 38 putts. Every putt except for 2 holes were your typical 2 putts, but then I screwed up & managed to 3 putt one hole on both 9's.

The greens were fast as hell, just tap the ball & it would go racing by the cup & that's what cost me the most. My lines were pretty good & I had a number of 1 putt attempts that rolled right over the edge of the cup. But the speed of the greens really had me guessing just how hard to swing almost everytime.

The 25 mph wind gusts when we 1st teed off sucked, but it finally died down near the 9th hole. Overall I once again felt good with how I played, now if I could just get a few putts to drop I will have a respectable score.

I'd take that Wi, nice work; especially with that wind to kick your round off. Now you know what to work on for next time.

You're still shooting better than me. I'm going to be Philly Mick with a 60* wegde in another month with these lightening greens and thick rough. Think I've hit more flop shots in 4 rounds than I have in my life.

It'll come around. Fast greens take some adjustment and it takes more than one round. They'll get you skittish of break on an 18inch putt, next thing you know you can't hit a straight in 35 incher.

Now that I have slept on it I have modified my opinion a bit, sure I had those couple of 3 putts but everything else was a 2 putt & I actually sunk a lot of 6-7 footers.

And since you are or were here Jerry, you planning on playing at all this weekend?

Yep!! Some of these guys just won't listen. Wi's sig says he's using a "TM" putter. ????? What's that? Probably an old, garage sale "Tour Model".:emot-ange Can't be Taylor Made, can it? Do they even sell putters? I thought they only were good for shoes and drivers.... drivers that change models every 90 days.:emot-ange "Tourismo".... "Nubbins".... Sounds like the names of Santa's elves, not putter!!!

Honestly, I can make fun.... today! Putting has been the ONLY strong point of my game, lately. Tomorrow, that may leave me too!!!!
Blessed to have a bag full of trustworthy friends who have provided this old man with hundreds of hours enjoying the great game of golf.

Nah, it was my approach shots which ended up as GIR's & didn't land close enough to the pin that made it harder.

I feel for ya Wi. I went down to the putting green this morning with 7 putters in tow.

3 hours later and enough knots in my lower back to sink a sail boat, one thing was proven. Its definitely the Indian, not the arrow. 2 Scotty blades, The Fat Lady Swings, a Scotty Futura, a Napa lookalike AGT brass putter, a Huge Founders Club mallet and the Worlds Ugliest Putter.

Of that assortment of putters, the Scotty Circa 62 and the AGT brass Napa were the best behaving, but thats not saying much. Inside of 4 feet I was semi deadly, from 4 to 8 feet I was soso with easy tap ins left on the misses. Beyond 8 feet, I was horrible, not even close.

Yeah, that happens to me a lot as well. I've had 2 10GIR 38 putt rounds this year. Sometimes I'm better off on the right level with the pin chipping than putting from the wrong one. I had 1 GIR 3putt today then another where I had to punch out, hit the green in 3 with a wedge and then 3putted off a ridiculous ridge. Could have placed the ball on that ridge and gravity would have taken it 15feet past.

Sounds like we are at similar points. Iron striking getting better but need to dial it in just a little more to leave some better chances at 1 putting, take those 3putts out of the question.

Too cold? Supposed to be upper 50's today & mid 60's tomorrow, except for the wind it should be perfect. I like these temps because it keeps a lot of people off the courses.

Right now the forecast for next sat looks perfect, sunday is iffy. If you guys do play I will show up.

I will ask a question not to point a finger, but so as to help you figure out a conclusion.

Of the percentage practice time you have, break it down for me. For instance. 50 percent of my time is spent putting, 20 percent chipping around greens and 30 percent range time.

I don't care if you drive it 200 yards and thin irons all day, if they can't beat ya from 100 yards then they probably can't beat ya!

I drive guys nuts at my club b/c I don't really hit the ball that well, actually quite marginal this year. Get me within 120 yards and that's were I make it happen. You will start to get addicted to it once you drive your playing partners insane. It really 'gets in their kitchen' so to speak and causes all sorts of problems. They out drive you by 50 yards and lose the hole. So the next tee they swing even harder.....

As my buddy Bryan used to say for years.....'dude you are so lucky to make those putts, it's pure luck'. He stopped saying that after about 8 years. Allow me to steal a line from Mr. Player: "the more I practice, the luckier I get".

I don't practice, in fact I hate it. I might spend a few minutes putting & possibly a half hr in my yard chipping but that's it.

The putter was fine today, played 9 holes & had 14 putts, 4 single putts & the rest were 2 putts.
