Best Ball Outing

Local financial services place puts on a best ball outing every year, this is the second year i have played with this team.

Team is setup by a high school friend of mine, his younger brother and younger brother's friend round out the foursome.

Shotgun start, we tee'd off on 12 in the rain.

12 is a 472 yard par 5, this was the closest to the pin in two hole. The hole is a slight dogleg right, i pushed one pretty bad but ended up setting us up well for an approach cutting the corner and leaving us between the tree's about 160 out.

I left mine short in the bunker(overestimated the wind with us), other guy ended up on the fringe...didn't move the marker because we all figured you had to be on the green for 'closest to the pin' to count...ended up the closest tot he pin winners were in the same bunker i was. O well...


Last hole of the day. We cannot use my drive as we have to use one of the other guys as we had only used one of his all day. So i decide i am going to give it hell and see what happens. This is a 396 marked par 4 plays downhill, and the wind was directly with us. I caught probably the best drive of the day, slight draw, perfect trajectory, everything just came together...i was about 40 yards off the front of the green AND IN THE FAIRWAY!!! So downhill, down wind, i can still only get the ball about 300...lol

I never swing that hard on the course usually because i either block it off the map or i get hooky with it...so swinging in control yeilds about 250ish on a good poke but normally keeps it in play, sure is fun to let loose once in a while and have things work out though.

Overall we weren't dead last, but we were 10 strokes from first place...those guys win every year though. Shot 75..which for a bunch of hardcore hackers(and three of us were drunk by the turn) thats not too shabby.

BTW: Food was catered by a local restaurant, burgers, brats with kraut, potato salad, beans, the works...it was terrific. i ate way too much...

Hard to beat outings like that. We had our league outing yesterday. Our team is composed of players with indexes ranging from about 11 to 18. None of us are terribly long off the tee. Took 2nd (out of 8) finishing -10 with 10 birdies and 8 pars. Surprisingly we also won one of only two skins when a teammate chipped in for birdie on 18, to finish the round. Not a great day for me off the tee, but did manage to contribute maybe 4 from the tee, probably my only 4 that were decent off the tee. However I was hitting my FW's well out of the fairway, and did have one of my better days with my full wedge shots, and putted well all day. Had a dinner afterwards with Prime Rib.

Play our final round in the league tonight. Won the first half, lead 2nd half and the second team by 3.5 points and the 3rd by 4, and play the second place team tonight. So we need 2.5 of the 6 points to guarantee the 2nd half, and not even have to play for the Championship. We played in the championship each of our first 2 years, winning 1 and losing the last to the team we play tonight by 1 hole on overall after each team won 2 matches. Out of 13 matches this year, we have only lost the 2 points for overall twice this year, one to the team we play tonight. They are also who we finished 2nd too yesterday in the scramble. Should be a nail biter.
