Get a lesson, and refrain from giving her unsolicited advice.

Keep your mouth shut, and play, and offer only when asked, and you SHOULD be fine.

But your treading in bad water anyways.

At least you could spend quality time together...If she is willing to try. why not?
When asked how to put back spin on a i7,
Trevino said how far do you hit it?
The guy said 120yds and Trevino said why do you want to back it up?

    Re: golfing with the wife

IMO There are some tangible benefits from having a wife that plays. You get to play more often and you get to go on golf vacations! And when yopu ask for that new wham-a-dyne warp 7 driver for your birthday she knows exactly what you want. Besides, once she starts playing and hacking her way out of the tules, she'll be less likely to rag on your game.

Get her lessons, some decent equipment and play every chance you get. I finally got my wife interested about a dozen years ago. Now she plays in a league every Tuesday and we play every Sunday. It used to be that Sundays were reserved for "family time". Now the family time is at the course. Last week she even turned down a "lets go shopping" invite from one of her friends because she preferred playing golf.

actually, it's more like quantity time...

DO NOT TEACH HER HOW TO PLAY.

Get her some lessons and play with her (huh-huh,) and for God's sake don't make any cracks about slow play or anything like that. Dudes can take cracks like that - wives will hit you in the f'in head with a sand wedge when they're frustrated about being terrible at golf. Give her time to get decent and you'll have a ball. Or, give her time to realize she'll never be decent and you'll have a ball. My wife realized she isn't willing to put in the time it takes to get decent. So she just shops for cute golf clothes and hacks at a few balls as we play - it's still fun. It would've been a lot cheaper had we not bought her clubs and just let her ride with me (since the course will let a spouse ride along for free,) but it's still nice to spend time together and all that sappy shit.

    careful,

My wife beats me regularly. :(

We are both 14.5hcp, and both started 5years ago, I guess 6yrs now.

IMO, if you can see something obvious going on that she is doing wrong.... You should let her know, and prove why what your saying is correct.

IMO Lessons can be a huge waste of money if she doesn't get the right teacher. I think she's better off getting the fundemantals from a book or something first. Then you can help her with some of the details, provided she welcomes your advice; If she is really having a lot of trouble maybe a couple of lessons, but I dont think they do much at all without the perfect teacher.

Otherwise I guess just let her hack away and have fun!. Hopefully you play some good rounds of golf when she's around!. .

thanks for the advice my sister gave her a set im gonna let her try them out just to make sure she really wants to play before spending the money on a new set and if she beats me youll never have to worry about reading another post of mine ill quit forever i would never live it down with her

Hey Slicehappy - Your ability at golf has got nothing to do with your manhood. If your wife beats you - so what? My wife beat me a couple of times this year. All that meant is that she bought the drinks for a change.

A couple of pieces of advice - Make sure that the clubs your wife is using are a decent set and fit her correctly. Don't buy her new clubs until she's sure she wants to get serious. There are tons of great used club deals.

    offically married.

Read post #25 on the above thread...and never, ever do what I did.

When I actually play golf, I frequently play with my wife. I honestly wouldn't trade it for anything. It's 4-5 hours of time with no kids, no phone, just us enjoying our time playing golf. I hope we're still playing in our 90's!

I've got the same advice. I play with my Fiance all the time. A first we used to struggle a lot, and I realized it was my fault due to constant "advicing" and commenting on her game. I did it just to try and help her but she took it like if I was critizicig every aspect of her. Now I shut up and games are much more enjoyable.

That's by far the hardest part of playing with your spouse or girlfriend. Even after a dozen years of playing together I still find myself offering advice every now and then although I really try hard not to do it.

Your well intentioned desire to help usually just makes things worse. Think about how you would enjoy a round with someone critiquing every swing and offering pointers on every shot.
