The Duck hook

As promised in my introduction here is my thread to out the pain this horribly ugly shot has been causing me over the last month or two. It has been so bad as of late that everytime I walk onto a tee my playing partners let out a quack!

Since changing my swing dramatically two years ago because of how much distance I knew I was loosing with a slice I made it my goal to become a hooker :P Anyways I succeeded and since then my distances have improved greatly, I'm hitting as much as two clubs less that I used to and my good shots would always tend to have a slight draw to them, I felt I had discovered the elixer of life.

Unfortunately my obsession with hitting it longer got the better of me and I discovered that I was putting more hook spin on the ball by aiming my feet slightly more to the right. Eventually something gave way and I started hitting a shot that I had never had experience of before, the dreaded snap hook. Only one or two, but it was there, some might call it the sh**ks evil little brother.

I have tried too hard now to eradicate this shot from my game that it has become psychological and I just feel like I am going to hook it with every swing and at this point it has become so bad that 8/10 times I'm right, it is rapidly ruining my enthusiasm for the great game.

I have tried setting up all square again, feet, clubface, shoulders and many other methods but I am still violently hooking the ball.
Please help!!

Re: The Duck hook

When I get a little quick in the hands and start seeing the snap hook I work on trying to feel myself holding the club head off. Still trying to take and inside to out swing but rather than correcting with a closed club face to bring it back onto the target line I work on letting it go straight down that push path. Do this for awhile until you can hit that straight shot that starts off right of the target line and ends a little right of the target line without a fade or draw during the flight. Then work on gradually closing the face down to bring it back. My goal is to start a ball right of the target and have it finish on the right side of the target, although it has gotten closer due to the draw during flight. Good luck with it.
