Drilling at the range last night

So I was working at the range last night trying to get my wrists set right at the top of the backswing. It's something that I've struggled with. So I started doing this "drill" I guess you could say. Basically, while I'm over the ball, before I do anything, I set my wrists. Keep arms, shoulders, hands, everything still, club comes up and I've got my wrist angle set. From that position, I make my normal turn and swing away.

I hit 4 buckets like that. Now... this might just be a fluke, today might be a new day... but last night I hit those 4 buckets more pure than any I've hit all year. Finding the middle of the club face, great ball flight, little draw, and LONG! Like I said today might be a different day... and I'm sure I'd catch hell from the guys for playing like that... but holy crap... if I'm hitting the ball well like that... what the hell right?

Re: Drilling at the range last night

That is exactly how i taught myself and my g/f how to keep the wrists in the correct position at the top of the swing. Works well.

Once the muscle memory is there at the top of the swing, i can go back to my normal swing and get good results.

I don't understand. What do you mean that before you do anything you set your wrist?

Re: Drilling at the range last night

Before I move any part of my body I make my wrist cock. Hard to explain. Standing over the ball in my setup position. Nothing moves, shoulders, arms, legs, etc all stay put and I make my wrist cock. From there I make a turn and a normal downswing.

I've since started making a normal swing again, but this drill has helped tons and plan to keep using it!
