Thread: I am not a Ho...I need this.

  1. Wink I am not a Ho...I need this.

I've been playing a 10.5* Regular Flex TEE driver for about three years. Over all, I have always hit it better than any club in my bag. Recently, though, I have had trouble getting the elevation and distance that I have had in the past. I have also developed a tendency to slice it much more often than previously.

I know the club hasn't changed...the change has to be within my swing.
I am not getting any younger (72 now), so I have decided to see if an "old man's" club will better fit my swing characteristics.

Last night, I turned to eBay and won an auction for a 13*, Draw, Light Flex, Callaway FT 9. Obviously, it's all speculation and experimentation on my part right now. If it doesn't work out, I will re-ho the Callaway and recoup what I can. I'll keep you posted after the club arrives.

I have a 12° Maltby MMOI CT250 Draw (like this) with a R flex CT250 shaft in it (it's a 51gm shaft though, so "R" is a pretty darn light R) that you're welcome to borrow and try out if the FT-9 doesn't suit you.

I have a 50 year old mother, who runs a cemetery and leads funeral processions with a blacked out 6.0L GTO.

Actually, I also have picked up another putter since making this post. The big brown truck delivered a See More to my door last week.

Yep, it is a Quicksilver 2005 GTO and I do, indeed, drive it. This video was made when I was younger, though. I was only 71 during this drive.

Thanks TMG21. I added a few goodies last season, so it's faster now than that video shows. Unfortunately, I don't have video of my personal best run with the car.

Re: I am not a Ho...I need this.

Didn't I read in another thread you were getting ready to put some headers on it?

And it is a sharp looking car. Sounds like your reflexes haven't slowed down any either!!

Hell, at my age, I may have already put on headers and forgot about it. :o

No, seriously, I don't believe I have talked about any new mods. Here's my problem right now. The car is running 11.55 seconds elapsed time in the quarter mile with my current setup. NHRA rules say that any times of 11.50 and under require a roll bar/cage to be welded inside the car. I'm not prepared to chop up the interior to do that at this point. If I do anything to make the car faster and break under the time barrier, I can get kicked off the track. It just doesn't make sense for me to spend more money to make the car quicker if I can't legally run faster without being ejected.

The up side to the situation is that the money I'm saving on speed equipment can be used to ho additional golf stuff.

BTW, thanks for the kind words about the car's appearance. I'm sure my reflexes have slowed some; but I can coast for a while longer on experience, since I started drag racing when I was 14 years old.

    Hi Brandon,
Sorry I overlooked your post during all the GTO discussion. I do appreciate your offer, though. The jury is still out on the new FT-9 acquisition right now.

I have played a few rounds with it; and it seems to be doing what I was hoping it would. I am definitely finding the fairway more often and getting a more optimum trajectory than I was recently seeing with the TEE. I did lose some distance with the FT-9 compared to the TEE on the well hit shots. That is a trade-off that I can live with, since I seem to get well hit shots more often with the FT-9.

On a purely subjective note, I am not liking the sound of the FT-9 as well as the TEE. When well struck, the TEE always gave a soul satisfying "splat" sound. In comparison, the composite head of the FT-9 has somewhat of a dull "thud" sound.

I'll keep your offer in mind, Brandon; and if the FT-9 doesn't work out, I might get back to you.

11.55 is a pretty darn quick GTO. What all have you done to it, and do you do the work yourself?

No problem - it's just sitting in a corner holding up the wall anyway, you're welcome to play with it. Shouldn't be hard to get it to you. It has a very good sound to my ears - a solid "TICK" with a little "ting" overtone -- although I admit the "ting" may be louder than I know as I have a fair amount of tennitus so that ring may drown some of it out. Although you probably have that, too, if you've played with hot rods your whole life, so that may be a moot point.
