I'm guessing that the key lies in the bolded part above. Why is it necessary for anyone to act like an idiot on the golf course? Think about it: If you're playing golf, you're enjoying a privilege that many will never know. Why not relax and enjoy the day, instead of ruining your day over one shot, and possibly ruining someone else's at the same time?

Shorter answer: Grow up, people!

Either I'm right, or he'll call me a dumbass again...

Amazing that someone would "get this". But apparently, I'm dealing with two that are more involved in their own personal rights over what is for the betterment of society.

Yet there is no notion put forward that maybe him breaking his club got his frustrations out and was able to then relax and focus more intently on his round.

Try to think outside the box here guys. Just because it would cause you to lose your cool and mess up your entire round, doesn't mean that happens to everyone.

How is forcing your ideals on other people going to 'better society"? Hitler tried to force his ideals on other people too...that didn't end up so hot for anyone. However, i'm sure that mentioning Hitler here is WAY out of context and it throws doubt into any statement i have ever made.

If this guy would have wrapped this iron around someones neck i could understand your guys outrage, i would be outraged as well. But all that over breaking his own club? Get over yourself.

Re: Broke my Mizuno Sandwedge

Why does it matter if the guy's behavior was unnecessary? You say that you paid your money and don't want to see that on the course, but he also paid his money. He owns that club, it is absolutely his right to break it if he wants. He can do it wherever he wants to do it. The only thing he damaged was his own property. IMO you are trying to impose your own ideals on others.

I don't know about Canada, but the USA is all about "personal rights". And one guy acting well within his rights does not affect society at all. You can argue that if he chose not to break the club, he would be "bettering society" but one person doing something so trivial as breaking a golf club, even a series of golf clubs over his lifetime, is just too small an incident to affect society at all.

Re: Broke my Mizuno Sandwedge

I have no outrage, eclark, I simply understood what Rock was saying. And other's actions really don't affect my game...it sucks just fine on it's own!

Story: I was on a golf trip and the group in front of us (part of our trip) was on the green. Beside the green was a huge, old tree. One of the guys misses a short putt and just loses it...cussing, the whole bit. As he walks by the tree, he slams his putter into it and breaks it in two. My whole 4some is standing there stunned..all I could think is "What an idiot".

Then, the group in front of us breaks out laughing...it was a joke. The putter was already broken and had been brought on the trip for this purpose alone. They said the looks on our faces was priceless!

Afterwards, we were sitting around talking about it...our 8 and some of the other guys that had heard about it. Not one player felt his actions were justified if they'd been real, and all understood why we were stunned.

This was 20 years ago, most of us were in our mid 20's to mid-30's...no "old fogies", just a group of guys who love the game and want to have fun playing it.

You guys can argue "personal rights" all you want, and you're not wrong. You are, however, missing the point. Everyone has the right to be an idiot...doesn't mean you should.

If someone wants to throw a hissy-fit, what the hell do I care? I laugh at him, call him a jackass, and I move on. I'm with all the sides that it's a golf course, and it's relaxing, and should be respected, etc...

But if someone wants to do whatever hell they want to do, as long as it doesn't harm me, who the hell am I to say that it's wrong?

Thats like spanking your kids.. I'll spank mine if they deserve it, but don't come over to me and tell me that I shouldn't spank the crack off my kid because you don't do it and think it's wrong.

Respecting people is important.. Respecting the part of minding your own business and not trying to enforce others lives is no different.

Ding Ding!! Your right, someone shouldn't do something.. But don't go on a "zero tolerance" policy and get all puffed up and mad because someone did something that you didn't agree with. That's the point that was trying to be made.

If someone broke a club and then threw it at me.. Then thats a different story. But break your club and throw it in the trash, and move on.

I 100% agree with this statement. But you still have to honor the right should they choose to exercise it.

Its like the people who wear their hair in 'dreads' or however you spell it. It looks freaking horrible and i wouldn't be heart broken at all if it were illegal, but its their right to wear it that way and i can respect that. I won't be calling the clubhouse demanding they remove the hippie because he is ruining my round...lol

ask your daughter were she was last weekend if you want to be outraged!

Re: Broke my Mizuno Sandwedge

FAT, you're directing comments at me that have nothing to do with what I said. I simply said I understood Rock's statement, and gave my interpretation of it. Never said a word about a zero tolerance policy and never puffed up on it.

And, frankly, it's not a point that's worth arguing over.

eclark...*sigh*...how often do you have to be told that my 14 yr. old is way, way out of your league....

That's one heck of a statement right there. It's too bad "political" arguments aren't done here, because that one could spur quite a doozy of one.

Nothing political about it. It's common sense.

You have the right to fart in an elevator. It'll make you feel better, you might even get some perverse kick out of irritating someone else. It's not going to harm anyone in there, but it smells bad.

The world doesn't need to watch some immature dipshit prove he's a sphincter.

How 'bout you guys do a Google search on John Donne, and read "No man is an Island."
[rant mode off]

Have a nice day.

Please do not bring common sense and reason into a politically hot topic.
