Dreaming of golfing in the 200's or

Hello,

Have not played a lot for several years..played in company tournament in 2003 and 2004 and I think I hit one bucket of balls to get ready for each of those. Had knee surgery last year and so did not play at all. About 25 years ago I use to play quite a bit and was a big hitter kind of guy but I have problems now that make me forget about the distance that I can't hit anymore.(getting older helped a lot in dealing with the loss of distance lol)

I have a son who is starting to play and I really do like playing (do not know why I did not play for so long) so I am wanting to get back to playing so here is the deal..I have been at the range 3 times in the last 10 days and have found out that when I hit my 7-PW I have to hit them towards my back foot, I actually hit the PW almost to the outside of my back foot, when I hit this way I have to turn my left side out and it is like I am almost hitting straight down on the ball. I can only say that when I do this it aint that bad, today hitting those clubs I did pretty good until I moved the ball more towards the center of my stance. When I did that I would hit the mat a little behind the ball before hitting the ball and when I would hit the ball the distance was not that great and not much height.

When I hit my 8 Iron almost in front of my back foot it was going about 150 yards and very high, move it up some and a very low shot going about 135.

Have any of you gone through this and if so how did you get back to using a more regular golf swing? One other thing, I told the girl at the pro-shop I wanted to shoot in the 200's this year and she kind of looked at me funny..I then told her that I meant in the 200's as far as weight instead of 391.lol..I am sure that 6'1 and 391 pounds has some to do with it but it is bugging me so I am looking for help.

Thanks for reading this long winded post.lol

Thanks for any help,

evilstepdad

Help.....

The last paragraph is the most telling.
I suspect that you are well past your football years so 391 lbs, is real big and there's alot of crap getting in the way when you swing a club.

If you want to swing in the 200's then you clearly have alot of work to do, but you probably already knew that. Take care of it it before it affects more than your knee.

In the meantime, take some lessons then take some more lessons. The best we can do on the internet is make simple suggestions. Having not seen your swing no one could know what your problems might be but a pro, standing there next to you will be most benificial.

Good luck!

Custom fit clubs. Your clubs should fit your swing not the other way round

unsolicited advice

I know you didn't outright ask for advice on getting from 391 to the 200's but I consider myself quite knowledgeable on the subject of weight loss and fitness. Feel free to PM me if you'd like.
