Taking it to the streets

A wee knockoff thread for us hackers, have you ever hit roadway asphalt on a tee shot?

For me, once, long ago, and a near miss last year.

The long ago one I powersliced a, cough-cough, fade on a par-5 tee shot onto Route 1 on the 4th hole. It took quite an impressively high bounce and fortunately didn't cause any motor vehicle difficulties.

The second one, the near miss happened at hole 15, a power pull hook that cleared the roadway and landed in the public parkland over the two-lane road.

I've done it more than a few times. Our #3, #4 and #6 all have roads bordering the left side of the holes. A couple of times I've pulled one OB only to have it roll down the road and come back in.

It's not only a relief to save the two strokes but the distance you get is great.

When I was 17 I was driving by a golf course and had a ball driven right into my windshield. It took forever to get all the glass out of my car.

There's a private country club course in the town where I work, and it has a hole that runs along a main street. I was driving home one evening and had a tee shot take a bounce off my windshield.

When I was working midnight shift up in Chicago, a few of us would head out to this par 3 course just north of the airport on Touhy Ave after work and then go out for breakfast. One of the holes ran right along Touhy Ave with a 20 foot high net running along the roadway which is only 30 feet or so away from the tee. I hit a beautiful high slice up and over the net about 120 yard or so down range right into the westbound lanes. Amazingly, it took a power hop out of the westbound lane without hitting any cars and landed in the eastbound lane where it short hopped off of the underside of a tractor trailer and ended up in a bank parking lot. Needless to say, I hit a provisionsal.

Unrelated to street whacks, but in response to hamster poster, I wish there were more par-3 courses around here.

I need a new avatar........

The par 3 in question was no great shakes. You had to tee off the black plastic matts than had 3 holes in them to hold your ball. Thin city.

I do agree that good par 3's are hard to find. I learned the game on the local par 3, 9 hole, course when I was growing up and there was a great 18 hole par 3 in Middleton, MA that was always in awesome shape. I kind of miss those courses.

Good pitch and putts are hard to find as well.

Oh boy. Par 5 9th 525yds. road all the way to the hole on the right. I've hit dozens of tee shots slicing over the road. Last year on my second shot I was out in the left rough about 230yds. away and decided to go for it with my 5 wood. I hit a big push cut and it hit a Volkswagon in the side door. The guy stops, gets out and starts looking at the car and looking over towards us. I pull a yellow ball out of my bag and drop it. He eventually just left but I had it planned. "Hey you hit my car" I would ask him if it was a white ball. He would say yes and I would say "Sorry I'm playing yellows."

Couple of years ago, I was playing a Muni in Denver (don't remember the name) but a fairly busy street (Sherman?) runs parallel along the right side of a hole on the back nine.

I hit one of my patented rainbows, two hops through traffic then it landed in the back of a red pickup. The dude never even slowed down, it's gotta be my longest drive.
