Booming Drives or Deadly Putting?

Assuming nothing else in your game changes, would you rather average 325 yards off the tee or average 28 putts per round?

Right now, I average 32 putts per round, so if I were to average 28, I could knock four shots off my game.

Of course I a biased

I can hit 270 to 300 now so thats not that much of an improvement, also when I took the new driver out, I hit 4 out of 7 off the range and its 320 deep. so I have to vote for improved putting.

I'm not a long hitter by any means (average about 220 metres/240 yards on well struck drives), but I'd still take good putting over more distance every time. Hitting less club into the green doesn't necessarily save you anything at all (maybe bragging rights occasionally) but one less putt is one less stroke on the score.

Talking

i drive pretty good and i average a very low number of putts per round, so why am i still a hacker? Because I miss nearly every green and then usually chip it very close to tap in. When I hit a G.I.R i never one putt and occassionally take 3 stabs at it.

In conclusion I want a third option please , "2nd shots to within 10 feet".

I can put drives out @ 300yds. pretty consistantly with the occasional 320 yarder if I really "squat" with my weight shift. Now whether or not the thing stays in play is another question. I would rather take putting though. My best round last year, an 84, I had 28 putts. I can't remember any spectacular drives, but my approach shots were good and my chipping and putting were really on.

I'd take the deadly putting as it would immediately benefit my game by 6 to 7 strokes per round. Plus, I don't know what it is, but there's hardly anything more satisfying that dropping a bomb from across the green. I assume with the way I sometimes get to greens now and 28 per round, I'd be getting at least 1-2 bombs per round.

Or wait, what if we forever get stuck at 28 putts per round and never get better?

Let me think more. Let me get some more coffee too.

I kept kidding the guys in my group yesterday that the worst drive on each hole would get the best score. was usually true.

It makes absolutely no difference to me whether I drive the ball 250 or 325, since I can miss the green with a PW just as easily as with a 5-iron. If I'm hitting 28 ppr, then I must be hitting my approaches well and chipping well. I average 32 ppr. If I had 28 ppr, I think I would be scoring about 10 shots better, since I'm giving myself chances for birdie.

I'd be "happier than a pig in slop" with 28 putts.
