| What I learned this weekend.... I have been having trouble all year with my ball flying to the right. Not slicing, but flying straight right of where I was aiming. (Reminded me of TH's problem, only she was hitting left.)
It occurs to me now that the problem really intensified when I got a new set of clubs for Christmas. My old set had been lengthened by 2". (Did I mention I am 6'4"?) The new clubs are a standard off the rack set.
I felt confident that the club face was square to the target. I felt good about my swing path. I felt good about my set up angles. But the ball still flew right.
What I found to be the problem was that I was not getting the shaft angled enough, which resulted in the toe of the club being lower than the heel. With the toe down, it sent the ball right. I was effectively hitting off a left to right down hill slope on every shot. I have had to alter my stance by bending my knees a bit more. The results were staggering. In a round yesterday, the balls flew more or less straight at the target (still a little spraying with my driver), and they also flew a good bit farther. My 7 iron, which I normally hit 165 was flying 175 or better. An 8 iron was pin high from the same position. My score would have been a lot better except that I kept hitting over the green.
I am looking forward to playing again. I'll try taking one less club than I would have before until I get used to my new distances.
Just wanted to share... Perhaps this will help someone else.
