Thread: Met my Match

  1. Met my Match

I have never played with anyone who can hands down outdrive me before. Today I got two. My dad and I paired up with a couple guys in their early 20's. They were a little over 6' and probably a good 240lbs. each. Man could these guys crush the ball. They each hit the fringe on a 349yd. par 4. They were cranking out 320-330yarders all day long. One of them was pretty good. The other must just hit driver at the range, he had a horrible short game. I think he used his SW for any and every shot inside of 100 yards.

  2. Wow, 320-330 yards consistently, that's good.

But how accurate were the shots?

  4. One of them had a bag with his name on it from a nearby college so I assume he plays there. He was more consistant and had a decent short game. I would assume he is a single digit handicap, must be. The other guy had no short game to speak of, or iron accuracy for that matter. He must have hit into at least 6 bunkers. They were launching them straight or a little draw though. The better kid had the new MP60's, hit a 4iron as far as my 5wood. See my avatar, picture that weight shift with a 22year old kid pushing 250lbs. with a massive shoulder turn. The kid that was worse had a horrible speech impediment, his words got like stuck and took a few seconds to spit them out. On the last hole someone left a ball in the fairway, I saw it was a Slazenger. My dad yells over to him (hoping his duck hook caught a tree he missed) and I was like, oh god for christ sakes. It sounded like a tire going flat for about 17 seconds before he spits out "Slazenger". I felt bad for him, especially after he hits right into his final bunker of the day.

I'm not a huge hitter but I'm usually the longest off the tee in most groups by a couple of yards so it always takes me a few holes to stop myself trying to keep up with bigger hitters. I must be an idiot because I can never help myself. I always try and make up those extra yards to the detriment of my score card. It's almost like I'd rather out drive them than out score them. As I'm getting older though it seems I'm getting (slightly) wiser but I'm competitive as hell, I don't even like to lose sleep!

I calmed down after around the 3rd hole and sucked it up. The yardage difference was no big deal anyway, I was hitting a 7 as well as thier 9's. I got retribution on the 17th though. 575yd. par 5. I caught the downslope with my low rocket fade to about 315. Then pounded a 5wood over the the layup stream to the upslope just before the fringe. I was the only one to clear the stream in 2. I have been implementing a swing change which has cut my distance a little as I am getting used to it. My ballstriking is 10 times better though.

    Haha, poor fella.
