Hybrid Chipping

I don't know how many of you have tried this but I encourage you to give it a shot. I had a ball today that was maybe 8-10 feet from the green and the pin was a good 15-20ft. up the slope of the green. I had a tough time trying to figure what club I could land and run up the slope since it went back down 2ft. behind the hole. I used my 25* Sonartec like a putter. Just stroked it like a 15footer uphill. I put it to 1ft.

David Leadbetter told me about this on the Golf Channel. It makes the short game much simpler so I use it at every oppurtunity. Is there anything Hybrids can't do.

No doubt

My Adams Idea 4 hybrid has been my savior from those same areas around the green. Stroke it like a putter and it goes right where you need it.

Yeah, since getting a couple of hybrids, I've used them for a number of running chips. Very easy to get the ball running.

I've never taken hybrids that seriously before, but since joining this forum and reading all the praise that this club gets, I'm definitely going to have to try one out.

Thanks

I couldn't live without my 23* Sonartec. The thing is awsome for low punch shots too. I had one on the first hole today I sliced into a tree, sitting on the hardpan. I hit a 200yd. slicing low fade to 15ft. (from the green).

I never chip with my hybrid. I want to, but I can never make myself do it, as I think i'll screw it up.

I was practicing my chipping onto the 4th green one evening, when the course was quiet, with my dad. Changing clubs, to see what works best from each different lie. We found a difficult sloping downhill chip. Tried sand wedge, 7 iron, putter, practically every other club in the bag. Could not get it to stop. Closest I got was 6ft, which is still a fairly tough putt. I took my hybrid out, put four balls down. Holed 2 out of the 4. The other 2 were both within 2 ft. Amazing, but I still can't seem to get the hybrid out when i'm chipping. Just a mental thing, I suppose...

Others have described similar experience. What is it about hybrids that accounts for that kind of success?

I've tried chipping with my hybrids, but no luck. My 8i is too trusty. But you've inspired me to give it another shot.

Played by myself one evening and was behind a fairly slow two-some. I had a lie about 2 feet off the green with about 35 ft to the pin which was uphill and broke hard right to left the last 5 feet. I hit my 52* Mizzy to about 6 feet, not terrible for me, but not great either. I finished the hole and realized it was going to be a while before I teed off again. So I went back to the same spot and tried my hybrid for the heck of it. It rolled up to within a foot. I thought that was a fluke and dropped another ball. This one stopped at two feet. Yet for some reason I still won't do it on the course.

Are you guys choking up on the hybrid? Locking wrists and using a putting type stroke? Delofting? What's your "technique"?
