Thread: Crappy Short Game

  1. Crappy Short Game

My short game has just been crap this year so far. I used to go 2-3 rounds without a 3 putt and now have 2 or 3 per round. Putting isn't too good but chipping and pitch shots have been off too. I haven't holed a chip in over a month. I suppose this is just a lack of practice and hitting the 1st tee without a few minutes on the practice green to feel the speed. I am looking for a little advice, maybe a shot I can work on from 30-50 yds. I either play a pitch that is basically a longer version of a chip or a low wedge pitch from mid stance. This is a shot I learned that is supposed to be a skip stop. It works when I hit it right but it is pretty inconsistent, 60% good, 25% chunky and 15% scull jobs skipping off the back.

Ez you know I feel your pain

Had a chip for par that should have gone in, it wanted to go in, but the Gods of Golf have no love for me. It rolled to a stop an inch and a half short, just another of my laments from Sundays round.

  3. Well, when I practice my chipping around the green I don't even really aim for the hole. I put something down (like a leaf or tee) right where I would want the ball to land, then keep playing that shot until I hit the target. Yes this is very time consuming and only focuses on one shot, but you really learn how to control you swing, and how small changes affect the shot.

As for putting, I have always been naturally fairly good, so I can't really help you out there. Maybe you could try putting from one foot, then when you get it in the hole, move back a foot and so on. I wouldn't really worry about breaks because that just comes with experience.
