Anyhow, now that I've broken 90

One of the self-motivation deals I made with myself was that after I broke 90 at Delcastle, I would treat myself to my first round ever at Wyncote because it was a course I wanted to play back in the 90's when it first opened, but I never got around to it then. Probably a good thing since I was a completely recreational hacker.

Still, at least a couple of times, Jim Furyk invited some other big names like Sergio Garcia for a skins game competition there, so it's one of those things where it would be very cool to finally play on a course where some big names have also played.

But now check it out. If I get there after 5 today, it's only 20 bucks to walk!

Sheesh. Is there any doubt where I'll be heading out the door when I leave work today?

Congrats on a golf milestone for you. Bad news though. It gets much harder from here...

It doesn't get easier? *gulp*

Nah, at this point, it's just keep working on the weaknesses in the game, and work on the goal of shooting in the 80's on a regular basis. Once I get there, then I can start thinking about how to get below 80 in a round.

Great price, and a great course. We played it last year for the first time. It took us moving up here to realize that we wanted to finally play it, although I believe we paid closer to $70-80 on a Saturday Morning.

It was worth it at that price. This may be a good time to play as it may be a little more forgiving prior to the tall grass growing in fully. If you like it and have not played Honeybrook, you may like it as well. They are fairly similar. Wyncotte is nicer, but Honeybrook is usually cheaper during the height of the season.

For $20, that may be the best bargain round you will ever play, and I cannot think of any course in that area that matches that price for quality of course. Wyncotte may be the top public courses I played in that area in the 3 years we golfed there.

I don't know if I can get a full 18 in after 5, especially if it's busy. But it'll certainly be cool to see it for the first time.

I managed to complete 14 holes at Wyncote yesterday evening, skipped holes 12 and 13, played 14, 15 and 16, clouds and darkness got too thick and I just walked my way in from 17.

Amazingly, the course was almost empty.

The front-9 is terrific, I think. Quite lovely, and the farms are outside on the periphery. Makes for a rather pastoral setting, and I really liked the effect of playing a course that had more humps and dips than I'm used to.

I'm not so thrilled by the housing on the back-9. Something just doesn't feel right about playing hole 16 in between houses even if they are at least fairly well back from the hole playing area. It just ruins, I think, the whole feeling you've had before.

But I'll go back for some more twilight some point, and take the camera with me.

I love the line...Come and experience Scottish golf at Wyncote today!

Was there sleet, a 40mph wind and a load of Jocks spouting off about Haggis and some drink they call whisky? Well?

Scottish golf, my ass!

There were a few drops of rain, and a fairly decent breeze, especially at the end, but remember, it's only flavor and I don't think we would actually want to consume haggis in these parts.

It's just one of those marketing kind of things, you know?

And it's a nice change of pace from the way many American courses are laid out.

It is probably the closest thing you will find to a Links course in this neck of the woods. So a person can dream, in the same sense that I would hate to see the Irish or Scottish interpretation of a Mountain Course after playing in this neck of the woods.
