I could not get any sort of consistency going with the flatstick today, and even in the past few weeks I've been awful by my standards. Today I went 1 putt, 1 putt, 3, 3, 3, 1, 3, 1, 3, in the first 9 holes and I was +5! It was all poor speed. Yest. as well I had 36 putts for 79. What's most annoying is my iron play is just so unreal right now, 12/.18 GIR is becoming a standrd for me now.

36 putts with 12 GIR doesn't sound to shabby to me. I average 29 or less putts a round, although only average 3.5 GIR. I am a pretty decent putter, but probably a better chipper.

It sounds like it is just a matter of getting used to speed on lengthy or Lag putts, start practicing them now that you need them more due to the GIR's. But IMHO, 36 with that many greens is not to shabby. Starting tracking putts for a GIR and it may give you a better idea, I do not know to many people that average fewer than 2 putts per GIR, even my average with 29 putts is just over 2 on GIR's. Now if all those 3 putts came without a GIR I would be concerned, but I am guessing almost all of them were a result of a GIR. And just doing a few calculations, it would appear most if not all of them came on the front nine, meaning you probably got used to the speed by the end.

36 putts is an average of 2 putts a hole. Not bad.

Sounds like you are ready to take it to the next level. Those 1st putts after a GIR are nerveracking. Best thing I can advise is get a solid routine. I take a read, a few strokes behind the ball for speed, step up, line it up and go. I played 27 holes yesterday without a 3putt. Of course I didn't hit nearly as many greens as you do.

Well I average 31 PPR, just 9 GIR. It's just annoying because I play like a scratch player up to the green and then muck it all up. I need to practice

The two of us playing would be perfect emc, IF i can put it in the fairway inside of 170 yards, i can play like a scratch or plus, but its just getting outta the tee box that kills me....

I believe my coach and I figured out i was at 28.7 ppr with about 11.3 GIR (i always seem to have at least one or two holes im having to go stroke/distance or hack outta the long junk...

)

If your putting me out there 270 everytime, im not guna worry about getting up and down, because i wont miss the green very often from that tee shot. Unless you meant for birdie, then damned straight i will

I've started gripping down 2 inches on the putter now and it's really helped me with the 10-20 feet range, because I make nothing from there and that's where my good approaches end up. Inside 6 feet I'm pleased to say, is still gimme range!

I heard an interesting tip today that I will have to try out...

Overlap left hand over right on putter (for righties). The theory is that your right hand is powering the putt, so you should give it as much access to the putter as possible. I don't know for sure, but it may allow you to lag putt better... Maybe for short putts it will be screwy, but we will see...
