hitting the ground before ball

i do this sometimes on my driver and irons.. taking big divots and ball isnt going to far whats the cause of this? to close to ball? help!

I take it from your post this is not something most everybody does? I've just accepted it and moved on. Geez you guys are just killing me with the need for improvement.

Make sure you aren't pulling up your head first. Swing around your head/spine, let them be a pole which all other parts of your body rotate around(not my info, but I forgot who on here said it). Keep your eye on the balls and your head down even through follow through.

Also, if this doesn't help, just try moving the ball back in your stance.

this is a problem I use to have all the time, now I only do it once a month

you've just got to try and tune yourself in with your,body,your club,the ball and the links

I probably sound like a whacked out hippy associated with the Manson family right now but it works for me

I've been helping my dad with his chunking problem. Stick a tee in the ground 4-6 inches in front of your ball. Hit the ball, take the tee out after impact. The key is hands pass over the ball 1st, shaft maintains a 15* angle. Another thing that helped me was to ensure my weight was on my right instep at impact. This is how you "hit down" on the ball rather than the flippy motion that causes a lot of chunks.
