Rainy day golf.

I had a tee-time yesterday morning at 11AM and it was raining lightly. Since I have no golf rain gear, this is a problem.

Checked the weather radar and it looked like the front might move away in a hour or so. I drove to the course and there was almost nobody there. Met two ordinary guys on the first tee who invited me to join them.

The rain stopped after 5 holes. The two guys ended up shooting in the low 70s. I shot a 95. But they were nice. One of them was actually a golf instructor, so he gave me some tips. The other guy outdrove me by 40 yards.

On one par 5 they both hit killer drives and went for the green in 2 (missing). I hit a puny drive into the woods, a lucky 3 iron out and a nice 8 iron pin high to make par. They both 3 putted for bogies. Only time I had the honors all day and so I pulled my next drive into the woods where deer go to die.

For most of the round, we didn't see any other golfers on the course. Very wierd. But it's amazing how well you can concentrate when you don't have to wait to hit.

So I'm in the market for a nice 2 piece rain suit. I might as well play when no one else is out there. Any one have any special brands and models that they recommend?

You must not wear eyeglasses. Worst thing is trying to perform some sport outdoors in the rain while wearing glasses.

I know there's contacts and laser surgery but at 59 I'm not fooling with my eyes. I did wear contacts for awhile but they just weren't for me.

So I don't play in the rain unless forced to.

Actually, I do wear distance glasses, otherwise I'd have no idea where my ball went. I carry a microfiber towel to clean and dry them. Yesterday the rain was light, so no problem. I know exactly what you mean, though.

I may opt for Lasik when I can afford it.

Previous to this year, my best round was in the rain. It was raining on and off all day long, and I decided to play. Luckily for me I don't wear glasses, 20/14 vision hehehe.

Anyway, that's cool you got to play and actually play alone, no waiting, no being hit into. Even if the conditions weren't optimal.

I had 20/10 vision when I was 17. Actually passed a flight physical.

Then when I was 30, I noticed I was having trouble reading books. First set of glasses.

At 40, I couldn't read street signs at a distance. Second set of glasses.

Now on cold days, at 50+, I'm having trouble finding my pecker when I need to take a piss. Third set of glasses?

This is far too easy...

Sounds like you need a bigger pecker.

I wouldn't have trouble seeing mine if the belly weren't in the way.

How in the world did we go from rainy day golf to the size of peckers, and lack of seeing them?

Okay... Back on topic - I highly recommend Nike Storm Fit. They have different levels of protection - my half-zip jacket is the 2nd highest, and my pants are the third highest. They are awesome - have used them in fairly heavy rain without getting wet under the jacket/pants, they have a great warranty, and they are made for golf, so the sleeves don't constrict your swing...

I don't mind wind, and I don't mind rain but the combination of both with cold temperatures really curbs one's enthusiasm.

So keeping dry, warm but not sweaty is important.
Anythinhg with Goretex in it and a 2-3 year guarantee is good.

Probably, even likely, but I am cheating - I got mine at the Nike Employee Store, so it cost me $125 for the pair instead of the sticker price of around $240

Too pricey for me. I'm bidding on a CG rain suit on Ebay.

Maybe I'll find something Mizuno or TaylorMade.

Although, I have some really great REI stuff for cold weather.

I got my $45 CQ 2 piece rainsuit today from Ebay. It looks nice and fits well. I don't think it's 100% water proof, though, but more likewater repellent.
