Which club?

Say you're 10-15 feet from the green, in 2" Bermuda rough. The ball is sitting down in this fluffy stuff. The pin is mid-green, so total distance is 30-40 feet.

Which club do you use? And how do you swing it?

Do you know the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? The porcupine has its' pricks on the outside.

My PW will put it right on the pin. I have a special stroke I use for chipping (wrists locked, ball off right toe, angled at 45* to pin, same speed and distance on stroke as backswing). I only carry the PW so it makes the decision easy for me.

I am with warbirdlover on this one, my PW is the most used club in the bag. I rarely use my 54* or 60* unless I am about 135-125 yards out I will use my 54* and 120-90 I will use my 60* or if I am in greenside bunkers then they will come into play big time. My PW is ideal for me greenside rough since I have the most distance control once on the green.

56* - delofted, ball back, hands pressed very far forward left of pin, short backswing, accelerate through with little follow through.

At the bottom of the rough? 60*, ball back in stance at right foot, and make a nice smooth stroke down, and through. Ideally, the ball will go about 2/3 hit, break off the spin, and release towards the pin.

Still getting used to the 58* so I'd probably go with the 54. Open face, weaken grip, ball slightly back, very steep swing, no deceleration. Pretty similar to a bunker shot. This choice is also very dependant on the slope of the green. If I am going uphill, I'll try less to flop it out and more to run it out with a GW. Key is really acceleration for me, basically try to hit the shot about 3 times as far I my mind tells me. If I give up on the shot it's a sure chunk or shank.

56*, back of centre, feel as if I'm using my right hand more to give it some hook spin and make it roll out. Walk up and pick it out of the hole

Only ever played Bermuda once in Palm Springs, so I'm not that familiar with it. Here we tend to have some nasty bluegrass and fescue rough grasses....plays quite differently, but can still be quite nasty.

If it's settled down deep enough, I might take the GW for that shot, although most of my chipping is done with the PW. I'd play it back, just inside my right heel, and play almost a Chi Chi style chop shot with a steeply descending stroke to minimize the contact with the grass as much as possible. It's a shot that I practice regularly when I'm working on my chipping and pitching.
