Truly a strange week, hopely it is a sign of things to come.

I haven't ever posted about accomplishments with my game much on here, probably because they are few and far between, and can even be terrifying at times. My last two rounds have been truly interesting and motivating.

I was playing a 7 man combined Skins match with carry overs on Friday, started off playing like cr@p. Got to #5 par 4, hit an O.K. tee shot, then chunked a 7i about 100 yards leaving me with a pleasant 50 yard shot to the pin. One of the people we were playing with hit to within a couple feet and was looking at birdie and probable skin, although I was getting a stroke on the hole. It was slightly uphill so, you really couldn't see the hole, just the pin. I hit a LW, saw it bounce at the pin. Pulling up to the green, we saw nothing and I said with a LW, there is no way it left the green and had to be in the hole. It was, and at net 2 this gave me 3 skins with carryovers, and stole what would have been 3 for him. I had won 2 other skins later, and sunk a 20 foot breaking putt on 18 to tie the same guy on a 3 hole carryover. Not a good day for him, but I had won 5 of the 14 skins with 7 people, and made one of my better shots in golf. Really boosted my confidence.

Playing again Sunday (didn't play Saturday), I started off with a fairly decent round. Even Started thinking I may break 90 on my home course for the first time this year. I had done so the prior 3 years but not yet this year. Only on other courses. Then I came to 7, which is a monster for me. About a 90* Dogleg left par 5 that require 3 accuate shots, the second having to clear hazard going accross the fairway, giving you a very narrow landing area. Needless to say I missed carrying the hazard on second shot by about 10 feet, dropped 3 and annoyingly hit 4 to around the 150 mark. The green on this hole is protected by a bunker, and in this case the pin was on the back left of a 2 tiered green that runs towards the back left. As it was a colder day in the 40's, and the greens were soft I hit a 6i a little light and gave me concerns it would not clear the trap. It had a heavy draw, carried the trap hitting the back bank to the bunker and fed the ball up and left to the top tier looking really nice in the end. The ball dissappeared, giving me my longest holed shot in the 5-6 years that I have played. My comment, "That made for a nice par". Really boosted my spirits. I Birdied #8. I then Doubled 9 which is the #1 handicap, carding a 45 on the front. I preceded to do par, bogie, par, bogie, par, bogie, par. Going into 17 with a 75. I hit my first terrible tee shot since #3, in the woods. Played out, and on in 3. 4 putted the first time all year (28 putts on the day counting that 4) for a triple and a 7. Hit a bad shot on 18, had to play up short of a stream as my backswing was obstructed, and only hoping 3 didn't go in the stream. 3 trailed off the side of the green and into the rough, and got up and down for a 5. Carded a 42 on the back for an 87.

I think I finally turned the corner with my game just in time for the winter break.

For such an aweful end, that's an awesome score!

Really, it's amazing for breaking 90 how if you just stick to your guns and make sure you put a few pars on the card, it becomes so much easier.

Nicely done, Jayhawk. A couple of those "why we keep coming back" shots, and an altogether good round. Keep it up next year.

I am starting to think I am seriously peaking in November, and further playing as well if not better that I did 4 years ago when I was in my prime.

I went out yesterday. Carded a 41 on the front. Had 30 on 10 through 16. This left me needing par on the last two holes to shoot in the 70's for the first time in 3 1/2 years, and for the first time on a course other than my old home course. I think I caved to the pressure and ended bogie (3putt), and took my first penalty (which is rare for me to take fewer than 2-3 on this course) on 18 and finished with Double bogie for a 41 on the back and an 82. It was however the best round I have shot on my current home course, and although I have shot better several times on other courses and even had 75 on two occasions, based on the toughness of this course I would likely rate it the best round I have ever played. Even had an eagle putt from the back fringe on the short par 4 (231-260) 8th that ended resting on the front lip of the cup, nothing worse than leaving an eagle putt short and was the second time in two weeks I have done so on this hole. The other was after the shot I mentioned in the first post.
