Ezra likes the long ball

I have to brag about this. I spent months slowing everything down to get my swing more consistent and slowly brought it back up. Played with no driver, teed off with mid irons, painstakingly last off the tee in almost any group. Today it paid off. My iron control was good and my driver was long. I hit the #1 cap green, 457yds., driver-8iron. Then on the 191yd. uphill par 3 I hit the green with a 6iron draw. Driver is just on fire, not just hitting fairways but splitting them. The ground was soft and balls were just plugging in. Several drives carried over 270yds. and a few had to be nearing 280. (50* weather and an HVC soft feel to boot) I see a round challenging par in the not so distant future. I played the front 9 twice, par 35 and 2773yds. Not once did I have a shot that required more club than 5iron.

Sorry if I sound like a pompous a$$, but I'm just so excited to have it back.

2800 yards with a 470 yard par 4? Sounds like they ran out of real estate

Ha, ha. A few changes in the FW to iron transition planned but nothing too major. This driver is defintely staying and my "left one" has a higher probability of coming "out of the bag" than the Miuras do.

457yds. The course was built in 1933 by Donald Ross. They longer side is the back. 3 par 5's out there. I really wanted to play it but it was just way too backed up. I might have got 3 more before dark and got around the entire front again in a little over an hour. The whole course plays at 6522. Not a monster but the traps and fescue mounds are in the right spots. Not to mention the greens are ridiculous. Cripes I would have been 2 over if I could have just 2 putted them all. Takes some time for me to adust to the speed, never mind trying to read those tricky ba$tards. One of these days I have to learn about all that "against the grain" stuff.

Oh yeah, those old Donald Ross courses can be fun. Some around here have been lengthened, but some are short & tricky.

Yeah I think they lengthened and made a few changes to this one. There are a few fairway bunkers that are not really in play (at least they shouldn't be ) There are 2 par 5's though where the bunker is huge and basically right across the fairway. The greens are tough, bunkers in front, on the sides, fescue mounds and most are dead off the back. I like the course though, definitely lets me know where I'm at gamewise. Kind of like a dose of reality.

That makes more sense now, Weird tho to have one nine that plays 2800 yards and one that plays 3700.

You prob would have shot 47 on the longer nine anyways

Ha,ha. My bad. I was looking at the red tees last night. It plays 3190 on the front, par 35, one par 5. The back has 3 par 5's and plays 3332. Par 37 on the back. The first 3 par 4's are infamously the toughest. The second and third are #3 and #1 but definitely #1 and #2.

Don't worry, that's how you always sound.

Great job on the game though, glad to hear it's falling into place, and that the driver is working out for you. Honestly, if the 425 is going this way just keep with it, NO MORE DRIVERS! Mine has been going pretty similar.

Did you post your score? Sorry, I sped red it so I just got the main points(I hit far, irons are good, me so lovely).

No, I didn't bother keeping score, it wasn't that great. I was putting like crap. I kept it till the 3rd, where I couldn't find my second shot in all the leaves right of the green. I lost a few more like that. So I had a few good holes but overall another $hit round at that course. Today I was even worse with the short game. I hit the best 3Wood ever into a par 5, on the fringe and make par. Sad.

Don't be so hard on yourself, at least you can count on your long game now, to work on the short game.
