booking priority

why is it, that people who book to use a golf course or are a member, get first priority?

I went for a game today, got told to start on the back 9 because there was a members comp on, then when we went to use the front 9 there were 4 groups of 5 teeing off and the guy in the pro shop said we had to let them tee off first...

since they were taking longer than then the real golfers (Woods, Els etc), me and my mate decided we may as well play the back 9 twice.

went to tee off and the dickhead in the pro shop comes scooting up in a buggy and tells us another group is coming through and we have to let them play through.

I think yeah well fair enough it isnt as bad as letting 20 people pass through on the front 9.
the group comes up, 3 of them tee off and decide to had a little mothers meeting afterwards while they wait for one more member of the group to tee off.

they all go to the centre of the fairway, then one of the course workers decides he wants to do maintainence on the green on the 10th hole

we wait longer and then it rains

I just don't understand why golfers who are on the same level as you have first priority?

that concludes my little bitch session, feel free to add your input in this thread

i can see way they would let members have proitity when getting tee times, but it does seems like bad management then anything else, if they suck and the guys in the pro shop are dickheads i guess you have every right to go somewhere else.

Well, it's tricky. If you want to give members absolute priority, make it a private course.

As far as I see it, he paid to be there too, so except for small shows of preference, the big things shouldn't matter.

I'm just thankful that my course doesn't do fivesomes except for our men's club in the first tournament of the season. We have a 5 man scramble every year to kick off the season, but no other tournaments and no casual rounds are ever played as more than foursomes. I admit that I play almost exclusively public access and municipal courses, so that might have something to do with that policy. I don't have to worry about special privileges for members.

Are you serious? From reading this, it sounds like you went without a tee time and expect the same priority. Hopefully that is not what you are expecting. If that is the case, why bother taking times at all if you can just expect to show up and play whenever you want. Do you really want to play consistent 7-8 hour rounds, and wait at the first tee for 2 hours prior to teeing off because 30 people show up at prime time.

I see no reason to give priority to members if you have set a time, that is the option of the course on whether or not to take times, and members can usually book ahead of others or have standing times anyways. I also see nothing wrong with trying to squeeze members in if it does not seriously inconvenience the other golfers. Course sometimes stagger times in a manner to account for this to a degree.

Although I seriously have no sympathy for someone who just shows up and expects to have the same priority as those who have planned their round up to a week in advance. I find it hard frequenting a course where I always show up at my tee time and am consistent 20-30 minutes late getting off the tee because they let people on that do not plan ahead.

I've also played courses that do not take times, and play relatively quick, but you know what to expect ahead of time.

I think following the guidlines and making a tee time in advance would put them at a higher level in my book.
