Are you serious? From reading this, it sounds like you went without a tee time and expect the same priority. Hopefully that is not what you are expecting. If that is the case, why bother taking times at all if you can just expect to show up and play whenever you want. Do you really want to play consistent 7-8 hour rounds, and wait at the first tee for 2 hours prior to teeing off because 30 people show up at prime time.
I see no reason to give priority to members if you have set a time, that is the option of the course on whether or not to take times, and members can usually book ahead of others or have standing times anyways. I also see nothing wrong with trying to squeeze members in if it does not seriously inconvenience the other golfers. Course sometimes stagger times in a manner to account for this to a degree.
Although I seriously have no sympathy for someone who just shows up and expects to have the same priority as those who have planned their round up to a week in advance. I find it hard frequenting a course where I always show up at my tee time and am consistent 20-30 minutes late getting off the tee because they let people on that do not plan ahead.
I've also played courses that do not take times, and play relatively quick, but you know what to expect ahead of time.

I think following the guidlines and making a tee time in advance would put them at a higher level in my book.
