sand wedges and elk steaks

played a round after a bit of rest.

thinking to ease up on golf i warmed up at the range hitting my sand wedge for almost all of the bucket, with some varied pitch shots and some full swings.

ding! i'd hit it.
had one of my best rounds EVER!

i used my driver once on the 10th hole and then shook my head and went back teeing off with my three wood and my trusty five wood.
the range familarity with the many variations of the sand wedge got me out of trouble and onto the green with nice pitches, when not chipping on with my seven iron.

then we went out to a steak house...that served elk meat from the Kiwi land down under.
served medium rare...
wow good.

that there's going to be up there as a new habit: plenty of sand wedge practice and elk steaks.

Deer steaks aren't salty. Well, at least they shouldn't be. If anything, they're drier than elk, but not as "gamey".

Moose is gamier, but makes great steaks. Bear tastes like shit. Too greasy.

I dont find Moose gamey at all. I had a nice Moose stew last night. I find deer gamey as hell and really dont care for it much in anything but sausage or ground with some pork fat for burgers. The tenderloin is Ok I guess. The elk I had could pass for beef. Try ostrich if you get a chance, pricy but real good.

I agree about the bear, it does taste like sh!t and is the greasiest meat I have ever eaten.

Steak, I had never tried it before and a friend put some on the bbq and it was salty and gamey. I had one bite and didnt like it.

I have eaten snake, monkey, dog, ostrich, frogs, rabbit, and many different types of bugs. Most of the wierd stuff I ate was when I was in the Navy in the south pacific.

If it was salty then that was something that was done in the preparation. No wild meat is naturally salty. Venison does tend to be more gamey than most.

I've had deer, elk and antelope, and of the three, I'll take the pronghorn if it's been taken by a hunter who knows what he's doing. If the animal has been chased all over the prairie, then the meat is almost inedible. But when stalked and killed cleanly, it is a delicacy.

Bear is extremely good if you IMMEDIATELY removed the hide and trim off all the fat. Most guys want to haul it around and show it off and that's where the meat gets greasy and crappy. If done right it tastes just like beef!! REALLY!!

Moose steak is the dryest, toughest, most flavorless meat I have ever eaten in my life. I hate it.

Elk meat cut in strips and fried just long enough in butter is the best wild game (or any other kind of meat) there is.

Deer meat gets ground up for sausage and hamburger. Or else it makes good jerky. Hate the stuff.

Raccoon is good if you know how to make it. Never had possum or Antelope or sheep.

Frog legs are great. So is rabbit and squirrel. Turtle is good (sorry Jeff) too.

I wonder if cannibals knew this before they would hunt/kill people?
