Shot of "06"

Let's hear it, your shot of the year.

Mine has to go to the most exciting shot I've ever hit. I was jumping around like a lunatic.

First off it's a short par 4, dogleg left. I hit a 5iron draw off the tee and set up a perfect 70-75yd. shot in. Took my 54* wedge, opened it up a bit and kept the wrists firm through impact. Hit a perfect fading shot that landed, bounced and kicked right, click and drop. My first ever eagle.

a 165 yd par three. water on the left. I hit a 7 iron right in the middle of the lake. I dropped another ball and slam dunked it on the fly for par. Talk about bittersweet!!

I can't remember yesterday, let alone 3 months ago.

Hmm. I almost jarred one playing a course in Texas. My ball ended up 25 feet away off the green afterwards. That sucked..

Come to think of it, I didn't have any crazy, out of this world shots. I hit a sweet 3 iron out of some poplar trees with about 45 yards of draw on it, that was pretty cool.

When I was down in Texas, also hit a ball from about 60 yards away with my lob wedge, over some trees and in tight to save myself some strokes. Maybe DaveE can vouch for that one, it was as River Crossing, hole 18...

Other than that, nothing special.

I remember that one. It was a helluva shot.

I hit a pretty good one Sunday. I was playing in a scramble and on the first hole hit a wedge from 100yds. to 12" for an easy birdie.

One of my best of the year was a chip from about 20 yds. on a terrible above the feet lie for bird. 9 times out of 10 I wouldn't even par from where I was.

Drive of the year was hitting it 380 yards into a 4 yard gap onto a par 4 green

Iron of the year was hitting a 5 iron to 2 feet on a par 3 the 3rd time out with them.

Putt of the year was a 40 footer up a big hill for eagle and 78, my best score at that time. Right in the heart. (Funny thing is I made that exact putt a few months after for eagle in a huge tourney to finish 4th)

I don't think I will count the chip-ins because I think they are somewhat lucky. The two shots that stand out in my mind:
(1) 186 yd Par-3 slightly downhill with a pin tucked up front between two bunkers, opened my face for a slight fade and stuck it - 3 ft.
(2) 50 ft uphill putt with about a 6 foot break left to right for a bird in a 4-man scramble - last one to putt - nailed it!

It has to be between 3 shots for me.

1- Hole in one, 124, one hop behind the hole and spun back in.

2- My 400 yard 3w, pure luck i know, but i pured the shot and seeing it just keep bounding down around the hole it was pretty sweet.

3- (*PROBLY MY FAV*) In a tourney at Northview Country Club (home of the old Air Canada Championship), we played the first two rounds on the Canal course, then 3rd round (for those who made the cut) got to play the Ridge (where they held the PGA event). The 2nd round just before the cut here. Well im in solid through 31 holes at +3, then go bogey, double, double, double coming into 18... I have no idea what i did or how i did it, but it happend. Then i hook my tee shot way left near OB (not even 2 ft in bounds), then hook my 2nd shot (had to go for the green to have a shot at this point and i knew it) WAYYY LEFT *OVER* the OB, onto the first tee about 30 yards left of the green. Im still in grind mode knowing I balooned myself close to the cut line, so with a tight pin to the slope back to the OB and deep bunker right, I look DIRECTLY at the pin, hit a absolutely huge flop shot, put it 2 inches from the pin and tapped in for birdie to make the cut by one shot. Every one on the first tee and around the 18th watching us applauded my shot, as i walked up after that last shot i turned to my parter saying "watch, im guna make the cut by one shot after that fiasco", i ended up being right

Needless to say I missed carrying the hazard on second shot by about 10 feet, dropped 3 and annoyingly hit 4 to around the 150 mark. The green on this hole is protected by a bunker, and in this case the pin was on the back left of a 2 tiered green that runs towards the back left. As it was a colder day in the 40's, and the greens were soft I hit a 6i a little light and gave me concerns it would not clear the trap. It had a heavy draw, carried the trap hitting the back bank to the bunker and fed the ball up and left to the top tier looking really nice in the end. The ball dissappeared, giving me my longest holed shot in the 5-6 years that I have played. My comment, "That made for a nice par".

I agree, I can barely remember yesterday. But I do remember this specific shot.

Theres a par 5 at a course I play, and I was 220 out with ob right, hazard left, and it was uphill. I took out a 3 iron, and pured it to 2 feet.

Now I wish I could have more of those...

My first ace after 40 years of (not really) trying on the 7th hole (159 yd. par 3 downhill over water) at Rivermoor CC in Waterford, Wisconsin on July 22. Didn't bounce or roll in. Was a "slam dunk".

I hit one of my signature horrid shots left of the green. Okay, I still love the next shot though.

Ball is sitting above a sandtrap, and about 8 feet above the green. However, I have about a 25MPH crosswind, also, the ball is sitting in no-man's land, about 14-16" rough. I'd say I had about 60-80 feet to the hole, all in all, maybe more. My left foot is sitting on the slope down to the sand, and about 6 inches below the ball, my right foot is sitting about 2 inches above the ball. I take my 60 degree, knowing it should cut through the rough not too bad, and open up the face. I compensate for the wind, and take a full swing at the ball(normally, fairway lie, normal face, would be about 90 yard shot), and it goes up high, catches the wind. Bounces once, rolls 3 feet, right into the hole. Best birdie of the year.

No Aces, Eagles, or really memorable shots to speak of in 2006. Best shot that I can recall was on a reachable par 5. Both of the guys I was playing with were going to go for it, I was sitting about 230 yards out and decided to lay up short of the 100 yard marker as the pin was up front and there is a pond that runs along the whole left side of the green and juts out in front of the green leaving a very narrow area on the right hand side to stay short, dry, and safe with a tough bunker running up the right side of the green. After getting chastised for being a wuss and laying up, both of them proceeded to put their 2nd shots into the drink. For my 3rd shot from about 115 out form the pin, I layed a PW shot right over the top of the pin landing it 3 feet beoynd the flag with a nice spin back to about 6 inches from the hole. Easy birdie versus Mr. Bogey and his friend Mr. Double Bogey.

Mine would have to be a 3 wood i intentionally sliced 30 yards from 210 out on the 18th hole of a par five the day i shot 69 in a tournament for the first time. I was two under coming into the hole and sliced the shot perfectly around the trees in the corner of the hole. I hit it to 15 and two putted for my birdie and a 69.
