My daughter visits the land of the Maple Leaf

This Thursday, my 16 yo daughter is flying on a school trip to Montreal. This trip is organized as part of the school's Honor Choir and they are going to perform at the Cathedral de Notre Dame.

They are also going skiing somewhere in the province and taking a side trip to Quebec City.

All of this in three days.

She's pretty excited. My first trip to Montreal was when I was 21. I was living in Burlington VT for the summer and when over the border to watch the Olympics. Had a great time...St. Catherine Street is pretty special...

I might get really really lucky. My wife may take my 9 yo to Nashville for the weekend.

This would leave Bravo all alone the entire weekend. I could go Commando, drink lots of beer and leave pizza boxes all over the house. Play golf, get drunk and belch a lot. Farting too....

Hell yeah, its party time if your wife leaves.

My wife went to Florida with all of my kids about 6 months ago and I gave her some excuse that I had to take care of the pets so I could stay home. I had a blast, made a mess ate a whole bunch of crap for a week, and either played video games or watched movies. I wish this would happen once every few months.

She'll have a great time, JB. It's a beautiful city. Though the traffic was incredible when we went up skiing in November. We spent an hour going around Montreal heading up to Tremblant...a full 10% of our travel time.

Does she have a passport? She needs one now to fly in from the US, but not to drive. Strange the distinction....

Play a lotta guilt-free golf that weekend, BTW.

It is a beautiful city...I'll never forget the times I visited it.

The trip seems to be pretty well organized. They advised us to get passports when school started and hers arrived last month.

They are going to have quite a few parents as chaperones, but one thing that amazed me is that they are going to let groups of four decide on a lunch location one day and go without an adult. This spooked me a little bit. I never had a clue about the sheer size of the city until I went there. It is huge as you know.

She hasn't skiied in several years. The last time was in Taos NM. I hope she can pick it up again...

You should be "blown away" about her stories when she arrives home.

Then, you can come here and we can play some golf, Saskatchewan style.

It will happen some day...I'll be dying to get out of here one July and arrive on your doorstep....

I will then procede to fall in love with your summer weather and move in...."just for a few weeks until Fall arrives down South".

Your soon-to-be wife will grow weary of me. Tempers will flare...I will order pizzas, drink lots of that high-alcohol Canuck beer and gain weight. Belching and farting will be constant.

Then, you will have the RCMP detain me and extradite me as a "threat to domestic tranquility"....

The day we skiied in Taos - it snowed 6 inches between 9 am and 3pm. It was a near whiteout. I had several near misses because I couldn't see more than about 25 feet.

Sometimes I would be taking an aggressive line down the slope and a downed skiier would appear spreadeagled on the ground.

I actually jumped over one woman and was able to maintain my balance.

The first and last time my skiis have voluntarily left the ground on a slope.

At 3, I went down to the ski school to see how Catherine was getting along. I was bracing myself for disappointment as she had never experienced constant snow outside for six consecutive hours.

When I rolled up, there she was with snow all over her eyebrows, having the time of her life.

She had been on the bunny slope all day and I took her up to the top of the first lift...an easy green. She made it to the bottom easily. We went up and down two more times and then they put the "Lift Closed" sign out.

She couldn't believe it!!

A great day and a great memory....wish I could do it every winter.

Nah, you'll fit right in!

Maybe not this July. Wedding and all. Mid to late August, perhaps.
