Thread: I'm in the worst physical shape ever...

  1. #1

I'm in the worst physical shape ever...

This has been a rough winter on me...lots of business problems (which have continued for the past three years)..personal issues with my MR daughter and spaced out older teenage daughter...I used to keep myself in pretty good shape but I have gotten fat and in terrible condition.

My diet has gone to sh** and I've got to overcome all of this...I've also had 'one too many' on several occasions...I know better than all of this but am slipping in the 'personal health habits department'.

I don't know why I am rambling here either....but something's gotta give....:faintthud :faintthud :faintthud :faintthud

I would say I am glad to hear I am not alone, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone. About 6 years ago I was at around 300 pounds. Not in terrible shape condition wise and still played Soccer. Low heartrate in the 60's, good blood pressure, never high. I got down to 225 over a period of 8 months after ending up in an emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack when it was really just oblivious to the fact that you shouldn't stuff your face with 2 chocolate éclairs and drink 2 cups of coffee when you are overweight, have a hietal hernia and plan on spending 2 hours in the car. Opened my mind.

225 was not bad for me as I am 6'1"was working out alot to get to that point. Maybe could loss a few more. The last Time I was lower I was in college when I was 205 and people thought I looked anorexic. I maintained that for the last 6 years. Usually put on around 5-10 pounds over the holidays, take it off when spring rolls around. This year I put on about 20 pounds since October. Hietal Hernia came back, time to get serious again. Had a normal doctor visit, and my blood pressure was a little high for the first time ever. Started the Precor and the weights again a couple weeks ago, which I hadn't done in a couple years. Got about 4 back off.

Man is it easier to put back on than to take off. Need to start easing off on the beer for a while so I can enjoy it when the golf season rolls around. Maybe go back to my power drink. Crown Royal and diet Ginger Ale. Hogan used to talk about how good Ginger Ale was on the golf course.

It is so easy to let this happen. I've done it to myself countless times and then when I get back in shape I swear I'll stay that way. Of course I don't.

Once again the holidays got me. When I have too much time off I get lazy. Instead of using that time to workout I just eat and drink beer. Brilliant.

I started working out again after the first of the year and then hurt my knee. Still can't do leg lifts but at least I can jog. I'm 6' but I can't really carry more than about 180 lbs. without feeling bad and right now I'm 195. Haven't weighed that much in years.

    Geez, now I'm rambling.

Anyway, find something to motivate you. Last week I told my daughter that I would run the Capitol 10k with her in April. Instant motivation.
There's really no point in listening to other People. They're either going to be agreeing with you or saying stupid stuff. Dogbert

I'm 6 feet tall and feel good when I weigh about 205-210. I've got a big ass and legs and can carry that weight pretty well without a big belly.

When I get up to 220 (now) - I feel like a piece of sh** laying in a bag by the side of the road. I just cannot carry that extra 15 lbs well....I've got a gut!

The other factor is my immune system is slowing down on me. In my 30's and 40's - over a 20 year period, I probably had 6-7 colds. Sometimes I'd go 2-3 years without one. I DO probably get them from the kids more though...We had our first child when I was 36.

I've had two colds already this winter and think I've got a third now. I'm not used to being sick...and our flu season here was almost non-existent.

My wife has terrible eating habits and maintaining the discipline I need is really tough.

And Rock, yes I have backed into more than a mailbox lately. Last Fall, I backed into a car parked in my own driveway and caused about $5000 in damage.

    In my own driveway!!

I like fresh raw vegetables and MUST force myself to start eating better. I can feel the difference....and drop 15 pounds.

My parents are both 82 and are in good shape for their age...at this rate, I ain't gonna get as far as they have...

How many times do I have to tell you bastards to go to this link---> Clarence Bass:* Bodybuilding & Fitness Home Page ?

Go to the fat loss and weight control section about halfway down the page. I post this because I like you Bravo.

I love to run, but the truth is that walking will make you lose just as much weight as running. Running is really good for me, personally, but walking is just as beneficial, if not more so, according to Clarence Bass (see link above)...

Here are a few articles from the link above to get you started Bravo:

I will give you 3 articles picked at random from that web page--->

    fat loss: Mother Nature's way

Fat Loss Article: Metabolism Myth (I like this one)

    holiday pounds

I picked these basically at random; go through these articles and find what interests you...

    spank

P.S. Why do some people have links the same color as comments on their forums? That is absolutely ridiculous, as it confuses people; I missed quite a few links until I figured it out here. Somebody go in there and change the font color of links, so people know when there is a link... Freaking jackasses... :hunter:

Guys, I don't mean to have to put my foot down on the font color for the links, and don't go into your bedrooms and sulk because I called you moderators jackasses for overlooking this... Just get your acts together.

Edited: Thank you gentlemen for changing the color of the links for us! Thank you again, gentlemen!!!

  10. Hang in there!! We need ya! We're pullin' for ya!

Sounds like you're a walking time bomb. The combo of stress from business pressures and home issues and overweight can be tough on the body. If you ever need a boost, never hesitate on sending a PM.

Many years ago, we had to change the locks on our house and lock our daughter out. Rips your heart out when your daughter is screaming and beating at the door to your home and you must call the police to haul her away. That same young lady who we wouldn't have thought would graduate from high school has quite a story. At age 26, she was the youngest VP of the world's largest insurance brokerage. Today, she in the Risk Manager of a multi-billion dollar corporation. Kids can wear you out... they will make some bad choices... and you cannot fault yourself for those choices!

Financially, after 35 years of marriage, a business situation bankrupted my wife and I. We lost everything! The bank even tried to take our home. We've now celebrated our 40th and are back on our feet... and enjoying life! I'll probably have to work to age 70 to recoup... but, so far, the Good Lord has given me the physical ability to continue working. What else would I do? Play golf every day? That would get far too boring!!

Keep your chin up! Difficult to do. So often, seems like it's too much to handle. Find a friend or friends that will listen and give encouragement. Someday you'll look back and say "Man, look where we've been and what we've been through. But... we're through it and are looking forward, not looking back!" Again, good luck!
Blessed to have a bag full of trustworthy friends who have provided this old man with hundreds of hours enjoying the great game of golf.

This just happened in the last few days. Thought it was kind of a pain myself. Although you need to save, then edit the text it adds to the right of the link other wise the color remains the same as it did on your post.

  12. Because we don't care to see you exercise links? Just a thought.

Forget the exercise, that shit will kill you.

Just stop stuffing your gob with crap.....take in fewer calories than you burn and you lose weight and save your knees at the same time....simple.

If you must exercise, swim, bicycle or walk......running is for the obsessive.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Rutt-rohh, this thread is starting to take a Denis Leary twist.

These people make Elvis look anorexic. Stop eating! ... And they have all these ways of saying they're not fat. 'I'm not fat; I'm husky.' 'I'm big-boned.' You're not big-boned, you're big-assed! Dinosaurs were big-boned. Put the fork down!" -- Denis Leary

    Admittedly my problem

On that note, I think I need a cigar. When I used to smoke like Denis Leary, I was thin. Quiting cigarettes will kill you. I put on Seventy pounds within 6 months of quiting. If I thought it would've taken the weight back off, I likely would've started back up.

Used to smoke 2 packs in an 8 hour graveyard shift in a convenience store, they used to call me the Morton Downey of the Kwik Shop.

Trading one unhealthy vice for another.

Now your big goateed ass is starting to plagiarize me.

Slingster, you and I work physically for a living, so we get our workouts during the day; criminony standing on a ladder jigsawing neat holes for lights all Monday, then showing youngsters how to carry a piece of sheetrock up two flights of stairs by yourself, etc... is exercise.

You and I can probably say that exercise is not exercise, but we exercise all day long in our jobs... but some may be in front of a computer or in an office all day long, and they seriously need exercise, especially the 3 you mentioned.

I worked in an office years ago, and I "hated it" (think "Men on Film"); I biked 10 miles each way just to maintain my sanity, but I will never work in an office.

Exercise is good, and the three you mentioned are good too, but running is really good for your knees and body joints; trust me (Don't make me pull out scholarly articles on your big wristed ass)...

    spank

  15. Yeah, I love the stories of runners dropping dead of heart attacks....remember Jim Fixx?

Running wrecks your knees and then it kills you.:laugh:
