I haven't beleived in global warming for one second. Poisoning our environment is another issue in itself that we SHOULD deal with. But attributing the warming of the Earth to it is 100% bologna.

Isn't this what science is all about? Prove something one way, other people prove something another way, and then spend years arguing back and forth.

That is the stupidest movie i have ever saw, co2 does not affect climate. Give me a break. Without co2 this world would be a frozen ball of ice. Yea its true that the earths temperture fluctuates constantly but it has never changed 1.5 degrees in a century and a half. Ice cores show temps go down as co2 goes up? What ice cores have they looked at? Temps and gone up the past century and a half and so have co2 emssions. I watched the first 2 minutes and cant go on. Its completely wrong.

....

What gets me is that even if I believe the IPCC reports, the same experts say that eliminating all CO2 emmissions wouldnt change anything for the next 150-200 years... So is this warming we are experiencing now the result of the emmissions from the 19th century? If so, then why is the State of CA suing major automakers for the C02 their cars have emmited? Wouldnt CA have to wait 150 years in order to sue? Why not sue cattle ranchers? a UN reports states that cows are a bigger threat to climate than cars are... them commies want to take away my car and my Sunday BBQ...

in all seriousness... I think the science needs to be further established in order for political decisions and sacrifices to be made.

I work with two glaciologists, and they will be the first to tell you that the Earth's temperature has gone up nearly 10 degrees in less than a century during periods of time. This isn't an engima, it's completely natural.

I worked very closely with a geologist that spent an entire summer in Canada's Arctic, in what is now Nunavut Territory studying flora from past warm ages where trees as tall as 160 feet and trunks in excess of 3 feet were found petrified in mud. Those types of trees, which were of the cedar family, require temperatures year round of sub tropical temperatures. That would have to mean that Canada's arctic was experiencing year round average temperatures of +20C or better, and less than 40,000 years ago. Just another example of how the Earth warms to extremes and cools the other way just as sharply (ice ages).

I'm all for cleaning up emissions, but there isn't a hope in hell i'm jumping on the global warming bandwagon. Not with the hands on knowledge that I have.

Well believe or not but I watched almost the entire film at work today. (hehe).

It was a bit hard to read but it appeared the scientists were from:

1) University of Leister
2) University of Ottowa
3) Massachusetts Institute of Technology
4) Western Washington University
5) University of Alabama - Huntsville
6) NASA - U.S. Space Agency
7) Japanese scientist assigned to Arctic study in Alaska (credentials not provided).
8) Other from the UK who have worked in their Climatology programs.

They showed various graphs that indicated that our climate is more affected by the sun than anything else...when we have high sunspots (and are bombarded by excessively high levels of solar radiation), the climate warms and THEN Co2 levels follow the rise in temps - not vice versa.

The Japanese guy said that the media comes around every spring when it is normal for glaciers to melt and break away. They show clips of glaciers breaking away and ask him about it.

He said, "this happens every spring"...its normal.

Then, they showed global temps in the 20th century. In the 30 year economic boom following WWII with tremendous growth in these horrible autos and factories - the global climate - COOOLED. (This coincided with a decrease in solar activity during this period). It only started warming in the 70's.

Other interesting points - one brought out by an MIT professor (America's pre-eminenent university of science).

Before the 'global warming' buzz started, there was an annual total of $170M spent on climatology research worldwide. Within several years after all of the media hullabaloo - it skyrocked it $2B.

What does this mean? Among other things - jobs for scientists. And if their theories are proven wrong?

They lose their jobs.

A retired UK researcher said that Margaret Thatcher started it all when she was batlling a large coal miners strike in the UK. She paid some British researchers to come up with some bunk about greenhouse gases causing increases in Co2 levels which caused global warming.

Imagine this sh**. What an angle!!

Good ole Al Gore. Said that ocean levels could rise 20 feet!!

Then, closer scrutiny showed it could be 23...................inches.

And he gets an academy award for all of this.

One other interesting angle: After the fall of the Soviet Union, 'scaremongers/marxists/anti-capitalists' needed something else to protest. Failed socialist/marxist economic models in the world's 2nd largest country kind of discredited their raison-d-etre'...so they needed another anticapitalist bandwaqon to crank up.

Enter global warming....

The thing I hate to see is the cutting down of all the rain forests in South America. Man, I hate progress sometimes. Just think of the tons of oxygen those forests churn out a year.

I'd love to see electric cars. No more Arab oil or greed driven oil industry anymore. The world would be so much better. No war to fight. $0.20 a barrel for your oil? No thanks, too high. They can go back to riding camels between oasis and no air polution. No need to spend $$$$ on gas for the car anymore. That's my wish.

Remember, all the plastics, rubber and glues that hold your car together and on the road are made from petrochemicals.

Start some work on a car made from soyabeans. Then we'll talk.

Just something to note when watching that documentary:

1 - several of the participants have complained to OFCOM (regulatory body in the UK) that their interviews were edited to present a different argument to the one they were actually giving during the interviews

2 - similarly, many of the scientists who produced the studies used as evidence to support this documentary have complained that their work has been misrepresented, or altered in some way.

3 - the company that made that documentary has a history of being pulled up by the broadcasting watchdogs in the UK for misrepresenting the views of interviewees, or simply selectively manipulating data/findings to support its arguments, when the studies they use, when taken in full, actually argue against their viewpoint. They've had lots of complaints upheld against them in the past.

Lots of information about the controversy it's caused here.

Don't have 1:15 minutes to kill now, to busy posting on here, will download it and watch it later on TV maybe.

If you are into this kind of thing. "Michael Crighton's - State of Fear "was a pretty decent read.
