Holy crap, that thing is a monster!

I'm disturbed by the report that the kid chased it three HOURS through the woods, shooting it eight times with a pistol, when the Dad could've ended it with his rifle. Needless suffering inflicted upon the animal for the sake of letting the boy get the kill himself.

I'm a hunter, and I understand the game, but eight times? A .50 pistol, while certainly appropriate for a 100-lb. meat hog, was underpowered for a hog that big, unless the kid was good enough to get a head shot. The Dad should have known that, and killed it himself.

Yes and can you imagine the recoil from a .50 caliber pistol? Like shooting a hand cannon.

Yup dad appeared to be the classic redneck...the boar could have charged at any time. And even with a good headshot from the rifle may not have stopped him by the time he reached the boy...what a bunch of idiots.

I also love how the article points out that they could get 700 pounds of sausage out of it. Yeah - sausage that a buzzard would turn down...

The picture I saw looked really Photoshopped to me. And I can't imagine an 11 year old having the hand and arm strength to fire a 50 caliber pistol multiple times.

I just have my doubts.

Well I think you could kill it with a .50 caliber weapon...that's a huge projectile.

My biggest doubt is that an 11 yo boy could successfully discharge a handgun of that size.

I'd damn near knock him down...I'll bet the real story is that the father shot the boar and is lying about it....

What I find most disturbing is that if these things actually exist, they call Alabama home.

On the other hand, where else would a freak of nature live?

Thats true, a .50 Cal is a gianormous gun and I agree most likely the father shot it.

My question is, if those things are out in the woods what happens when they get pissed off? Even with a .50 cal, if you miss with the first shot you're toast...or I guess I should say pigfood

It really depends which .50 he was using.

The .50 AE (used in the Desert Eagle) develops about 1700 lb-ft. at the muzzle, and drops off pretty quickly downrange. Not a terribly potent round. The .44 Magnum has the same energy profile (shot from a rifle), is the most popular round for hog hunting, but is designed for animals MUCH smaller than this beast.

The Desert Eagle is not a really difficult gun to shoot, and could easily be handle by a 12-yo boy who's grown up with guns. The Eagle is a heavy gun, and the gas action absorbs a lot of the felt recoil. I wouldn't use this round on a hog that big, though.

The S&W .500 Magnum, on the other hand, has almost 3000 lb-ft. at the muzzle. That's some serious killing power there. Recoil is said to be "intense but manageable". Probably not by a smaller individual, though. I myself would probably not enjoy shooting this round.

I suspect he was shooting a .50 AE round, and simply didn't have the bullet energy needed to easily kill this giant beast.

My sentiments exactly. I mean look at the last Hogzilla. He was brought down in our next door neighbor state - Georgia.

Hogzilla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a wonder that the 4 million residents of Atlanta are even alive with beasts like this roaming the area.

And don't forget snakes, alligators, tornados, hurricanes and volcanos. Huge volcanos down here that could erupt at any time.

Krakatoa - East of Alabama!!

YIKES!!

The killers of the monster pig have created their own website about it....

BIGGER than Hogzilla

People from Connecticut create websites about golf. People from Alabama create websites about wild boars....

Wikipedia already has an article on the giant pig and the weapon you described...
