This local joker beat that Japanese kid in the Coney hot dog record...

17lbs of hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes?

Ridiculous: Hot-dogging San Jose man gobbles up record / He eats 59 1/2 franks in 12 minutes -- he'll compete again July 4

I don't think it is a sport; I think it is gluttony, but whatever... unbelievable that a human can do that...

While he usually buys cheap dogs for the runs, he splurges on $55 worth of Nathan's hot dogs -- which are used in competitions -- before the events to get a taste for them

I love that he goes all out to prepare!

It's physically necessary, he said. The body needs every bit of energy to start digesting those 21,000 calories -- bread first, meat over the next couple of days.

Nice - 10 days worth of food in 12 minutes

21,000 calories!?!?!

Is he insane? I can barely take in 3000, on a GOOD day. I'd like to see some health tests, I'd bet he isn't the healthiest person.

The previous champion of Hot Dog eating has six-pack abs...

Looks like he might be on steroids, but he did eat 53 hotdogs last year in 12 minutes; that bastard is ripped and I don't trust it...

They have said that genetically his stomach is larger than normal, and expands more than normal...

Hey, everyone is good at something.

I am good at doing nothing, and they are good at sticking a lot of weiners in their mouth.

I like my skill better.

This always reminds me of the beer-drinking contests we would have at the University of Alabama in the early 70's....

Rules:

1) 3 person teams, either all female or all male.
2) Total number of canned beers that can be consumed in five minutes by each team.
3) Vomiting results in immediate disqualification.

First of all, everyone would 'shotgun' their beers. They'd get an old-fashioned can opener and open a triangular shaped hole in the bottom of the can.

1) Turn head toward ceiling with hands holding 'pop top' on top of can.
2) Place bottom of can on mouth and develop maxium suction through triangular hole.
3) Pop open the top and let the entire 12 ounces hit the gullet in a 2 second time interval.

The men's teams would get up there and get 11, maybe 12 beers (3-4 apiece) before somebody would blow chow. The vomit bucket was a 55 gallon garbage can.

Then, the women's teams would come up there. One group of three women, none taller than 5'5" strode confidently to the stage.

They blew through 19 beers before the timer went off. I am confident they could have kept it up if the whistle hadn't gone off. They left the stage with the trophy held high...

The vomit is the coming down from the rush of competition afterwards right?
