Heck of a storm Bravo sent me yesterday :)

Late yesterday afternoon a big storm front blew through north Georgia. 60 mph winds and torrential rain. One man was killed here in Augusta when a tree fell on him. Roads were flooded. My home telephone/cable line is laying on the ground.

Today looks kind of pretty though. Maybe some golf this afternoon.

Do you know the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? The porcupine has its' pricks on the outside.

Looks like it was tornado conditions. Any tornadoes?

We had one late Monday afternoon...power losses, the whole 9 yards.

That time of year for us Southerners.

Tornadoes are not common around here. Good thing, too, because I'm even more scared of tornadoes than I am of snakes.

WBL - we can get strong thunderstorms with no tornadic activity that can cause pretty bad damage from 'straight-line winds'. An Intense, one hour storm that can stir up a lot of trouble, downing trees, powerlines etc.

We had a 'microstorm' come through our neighborhood three years ago. It lasted 10 minutes. Blew down oak trees three feet in diameter. My next door neighbor's roof was penetrated down 8 feet through by a towering oak tree. I couldn't drive out of the neighborhood because so many trees were over the road.

This storm was about 500 yards wide. Outside of my immediate neighborhood - nobody knew about it. The golf course is two miles away and they said they got 'light showers for five minutes'.

In the meantime, I had the family huddled in the bathroom with the fear of God in our hearts...

I guess this is why there is so much fixation on weather radar around here...

Yeah, a little wind and rain up here can lead to a lot of devastation.

The tree's don't have real deep seated root systems, so you get 40 mph winds and rain and things start to fall over. Plus there are so many darn trees you have branches flying everywhere. Any time we visit KS anymore, the normal winds can be 40 mph and it takes us a little while to remember that it is always that way.
