Kramer on Seinfeld had it right......

as I am ready to screw with the cable company.

The storm we got 2 days ago broke some tree branches that took out my telephone/cable line at home. I called Knology on my cell phone and reported it. Of course, they did not send anyone out that evening. Strike 1.

Yesterday, I did not hear from them all day. At 1630 I called them again: 14 layers of voice mail later a real live person tells me the repairman will be there between 2000 hrs and 2300 and that he will call me on my cell phone. So I go play golf after work. I'm on the 2nd hole, when the he cell phone rings at 1815. Yep it's the repairguy. So I tell him I can't get there for another 1.5 hours. He can't wait. Strike 2.

So this morning I call Knology again. This time after 14 layers of voice mail, another idiot tells me that I'm wrong: the repairman wa not supposed to be there between 2000 and 2300, it was an on-call work order. Like I'm supposed to give a shit? I was told one thing, another was done, and it's my fault? Strike 3.

I really don't have to have cable. I can get over the air HD TV, but only 4 channels. I really don't have to have a land line, I have a cell phone. I may tell them to take a flying leap.

Charter is worse than that.

Cable companies suck.

DirecTV usually does what their told pretty accurately =D And I like their user system a lot better than the cable around here.

The only channel I really watch that isn't available over the air is The Golf Channel. On satellite or cable, I have to pay about $50 a month to get TGC and another 100 channels I don't watch.

That's a big reason that I'm considering bagging the whole thing.

We've got Charter in our area too....I switched to DirecTV five years ago ONLY because Charter was too unreliable. I've never looked back.

My rooftop satellite dish has been through some hellish storms (the remnants of Katrina brought 65 MPH gusts) and the little bugger keeps chugging along. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

To Charter's credit though, they have gotten better at servicing in our area. I use their cable modem service and get almost 5 MB speed and it has been very, very reliable lately....

TRY out DISH or DirecTV's basic package. It will run you about $30 a month. I think you will be pleased with it and it will cost nothing up front for them to install the equipment. (It's like getting a cell phone....with a two year commitment, they will set up your equipment for zilch). If you need the name of a good supplier, I will provide one for you in Massachusetts that is great to do business with....

Well, I don't even have a home phone line. *shrug* Just use the cell.

Concerning all the bs they put you through, tell them to drop by because you are there, and wave as they turn on your road and take off.

4 more phone calls to Knology and still no repair.

I'm deducting these days from my bill payment, and I'll report them to the Governors Council on Consumer Affairs.

Sib, once the work is done (if ever ) you should be able to call them and receive credit for the days you didn't have service. That's one thing I'll say for Charter, they give me credit without hassle when I lose service for 1 full day or more.

I'm thinking we all chip in on a big EMP generator, tow it down to Augusta, and put those Knology people to work. Course, the power company (and maybe the FBI) might take a dim view (pun very much intended) of our actions, so maybe that's not such a great idea. Never mind. Prank caller, prank caller....

If you get heavy rainstorms like we do here in VT, do not get Satellite TV.

Yeah, rain and snow can kill satellite. Don't forget it's just radar waves, which don't do terribly well through clouds (not well at all).

Anywho, keep us updated, and how nasty was the e-mail?

Apparently it was nasty enough. Cable guy showed up at 1300 hrs today and had it fixed in about 15 minutes.

I'm happy now, except for the fact that I've quit smoking (again) to please the girlfriend and I haven't had a ciggy in 4 days.

I told her she owed me a BJ for every day I made it without a cig and she gave me "the look".

Good strategy. I like the way you think.

I tried that before and it worked for a little while. Sooner or later they lose their sympathy for you and it's back to begging for them.
