The drought is over buy my yard is dead

The high pressure system that sat over the SE US for six months finally moved over the Atlantic - where it normally sits....the Bermuda high.

Now the weather has returned to normal with rains coming from the west and south. The Gulf is pumping up its normal moisture and we are getting plenty of rain. One of our two reservoirs is already up to full pool.

The golf course is absolutely lush green. I had several lies yesterday where my ball was buried well below the top of the grass - down deep.

In the meantime, about 35% of my lawn is dead. Crap!

Get some practice hitting off hardpan. Lord knows how often you need to do that.

I'll take a dead lawn over a dead course any day. I spend far more time on the course anyways. May as well enjoy where I spend the majority of my time. As much as I try to kill mine off, it just keeps coming back.

I agree...the course looks super now. On the homefront, the only thing I can say is, I am far from the only one with brown grass in the yard. You can drive by house after house and 75% of them have partial loss of their lawns....I'll have to say this for my neighbors (and people in our metro area in general): they obeyed the restrictions. People stopped watering - period.

Kind of nice to see everyone pulling together for the common good for once....

Read and article about faux lawns...no mowing or watering....I like the sound of that.

And a dead lawn is a bad thing?? The ONLY thing a lawn does is take time away from the course. I still threaten to mow mine each year with Roundup!!

Roundup is temporary. Follow the lead of the desert dwellers. Dig it all up, soak the whole yard in fuel oil, and lay down four inches of gravel. No-maintenance paradise.
