My high school classmates children - Rockers

I grew up in the late 60's and 70's on a steady diet of rock music...as did all my peers....

Now two of my high school classmates have sons who are in rock bands.

The first one - Howibecamethebomb - has just finished touring in Spain. His dad just sent me an email about a great reception the got in Madrid. They are going on to London and later to Scotland.

A write up from Rolling Stone. How I Became the Bomb: Collected Press

They sound a bit like The Cars from the 80's.

The second one - MosesMayfield - is releasing an album in the near future...

MOSES MAYFIELD

Rock ON!!

I listened to both bands. I prefer Moses Mayfield, but see where HowIBecameTheBomb would do well across the pond. I wish them well. Musical careers are fleeting for most. (very fleeting for me)

I liked the Bomb better. They DO have a more euro sound though...very consistent with my childhood when all we listened to was British bands.

(BTW this is my 4999th post.....)

I liked Moses Mayfield better as well but The Bomb does remind me of the cars a little.

I think it's interesting how much closer the generations are now when it comes to music. I'm pretty sure my girls would like both of those bands but when I was a kid my parents music wasn't close to anything I would have listened to.

In high school I was listening to Zeplin, Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Cream while they were listening to Perry Como and Frank Sinatra.

I may not have a lot else in common with 20 somethings but it's nice that we can at least share some tunes.

This was the same with me...my parents and I listened to completely different music. Now my 16 yo daughter is constantly asking me about the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, The Beatles and others. (My little one likes to look up old Monkees videos on You Tube!!!).

It is interesting that rock music, has stood the test of time so well. If you went back to the 50's and 60's when it first started, I think people would have predicted that 50 years later, the music of that time would have no lasting impact. Nobody would be listening to it 50 years later....and the opposite is true.

Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and company faded fully, absolutely and completely out. GONE.

Not so with Zep, The Who, Stones, Beatles, Clapton, Hendrix etc. Additionally there are so many great upcoming guitarists who are playing in the vein of Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn...

My classmates are incredibly proud of their kids as burgeoning rock stars.

Very very cooool................

My honest opinions... How I became the bomb, I listened to about 45 seconds of it, don't like it that much.

Moses Mayfield... I am seriously considering sending an email over to 95.5 WBRU and seeing if someone will give it a listen. They are the local Alt Rock station and right next to Brown University.... extremely liberal. That song reminds me a bit of the Goo Goo Dolls. They have a hit for sure there if it gets some airplay IMO.

Also, seeing as the early Goo goo dolls stuff was very good and harder... I'd love to hear some of thier other stuff, especially if it's a little harder.

Not too shabby, though I'm curious about followup stuff.

Bravo is right though, of most styles modern music, rock certainly leaves a legacy more than others.

I liked mayfield. I am not into the whole euro rock scene. They sounded alot like Postal service or the synthesizer portion of it.

Please send it along to them....this is the way so many groups get going...finding a way to get airtime...even The Beatles struggled with this in their infancy before they finally made their move forward in getting radio stations to play them/

And you would have been blown away by Mayfield's mom when she was in high school. Looked like Farrah Faucette....

They should be, both groups are very good.

I remember when the girls were still in high school they came home talking about this great new band as if they had discovered them. It was Aerosmith.

It was fun being able to pull out one of my old cds for them to listen too. They ended up taking and listening to a bunch of my old stuff. They're both big Tom Petty fans now.
