Whats it like?

Hey, anyone who lives in, or visited pennsilvania (dont think i even spelt it right?), wats it like there? I have a junior college coach ive been talking with whose trying to get me to go down there to play for him in the fall, apparently they have a pretty impressive team for a jr. college and im really interested. Will hopefully be going to visit and check it out in a few weeks (theyll let me over the border still without a passport right?).

The town is North East, just outside of Erie, PA.

Hows the weather? Hows the golf? How are kool canadian kids such as myself welcome? Whats it like in general?

i live in ohio, have gone to penn for a couple of ajga and other golf tourny's.

much like all of the northern states, great in the summer, sucks in the winter. Erie, Penn will get nast cold in the winter, but will be spectacular in the summer.

most of play in penn will be mountain golf, so you better like that.

What do you wanna know? Whats the name of the school?
visits are the best way to get a feel for a place.

Never been there, but my mom has a been quite a few times.

Hot, humid, green. That's what humidity brings.

That's a quote, too. You should go play there bud, I mean, if there are no other offers. If you don't like it after the first year, leave. The first two years of any college, university, jr college, community college, all of it, are almost exactly the same.

There are some awesome courses in that area. It's pretty typical upper midwest, all four seasons. If you're there in the winter I hope you like snow.

Guys, im Canadian, of course I love snow. If you ever drive by there in the winter ill be the one building a ski jump and a 10ft rail to grind

Im guna be goin overdrive on convincing my parents for us to go down there, the team the coach says is being setup has a great chance of being a contender at Nationals for the NCJAA this year, and have gotten to Nationals four straight years prior to this past one (didnt have a golf team, political blah blah reasons).

BTW, mountain golf is way better, personally cant stand flat courses, they get boring because then they have to overload the course with hazards and junk to make it challenging.

Just trying to get some info about the state and what its like, just trying to get what to expect.

Pennsylvania is a beautiful state. Penn, however, is in Philly, which is an east coast big city. You're close to Baltimore, and not far from NYC.

So all the talk about how nice the state is, is really a moot point.

You will be living in a big city, like any other big city, with its plusses and minuses. You'll be close to other big cities, and will have to deal with the congestion, pollution, and big-city attitudes.

If that's for you, then go for it.

i live in PA. its not bad, get a little bit of everything. It will snow in the winter so you can go skiing and stuff, although it would be nothing compared to canada. You can play golf 8-9 months of the year. Spring and fall is the nicest part of the year. Summers tend to be real hot and humid, but i doubt you'll be around to experience that. There are plenty of quality golf courses. In my area there is the second largest concentration of golf courses per square mile in the US. Anyways good luck i hope you like it here and FYI Erie is in wesetern PA, not eastern

What college are you looking at?

That's a beautiful area...I think you would like it and yes, the weather will seem mild to you.

I'd go for it in a heartbeat. You are young and get to see something new and different. And Eracer is right, if you are in Eastern PA, you will be close to both Philadelphia and NYC. These are huge cities...if you do decide to do this - go to NYC. It is an incredible place to visit.

When I was in my junior year in college, I decided to get away for the summer and went from Alabama to Vermont. Even though they are both in the states, the cultural differences are huge. And of course, I was able to go to Canada for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. It was the best summer of my life. I had a blast and the girls were a ton of fun (if not the best looking).

Go for it.,...

Come to RI. URI has some top notch players. If you make the squad there you'd be with Devon Quigley and the top amatuer in the state. Both those guys will be on the Nationwide tour in few years.

URI is in the southern part of the state. Near the best beaches around. Tons of chicks at that school. They also have a very good basketball team.

I would say Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Arizona are three of the prettiest states for what I like, having been in every state in the continental US. Although when I retire it will likely be to somewhere like the Carolinas where you can golf year round and don't have the same extremes.

Eastern PA may be my top choice as far as location and ease of going to existing sights and surroundings NYC, Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia, Atlantic City. Many shore points, Myrtle, Ocean City MD or even Boston are with driving distance. Although I live in Eastern PA. Western PA has a lot of the same scenic sights, but is alot different in many ways and is a little more spread out and not as close to as many big cities. Kinda like a different state in itself. I have heard Erie, or as is the case with any eastern portion of the lakes can get downright nasty in the winter with lake effect snow. Generally speaking for Eastern PA, your golf is absolutely beautiful, and the season usually runs between late March and early December. Erie may be a little shorter.

It runs more humid than many states, although not as hot, so it kinda evens out.

Pennsylvania, that's east of California somewhere, right? I'm kidding of course, I have tons of family in the Pittsburgh area and, unfortunately, spent many a summer in PA.

Anyway, what happened to SJSU? I was looking forward to having a golfing buddy that truly understood what ho'ing was about!

Sry chemboy, i honestly dont konw what happend with SJSU, that was my top pick, I got accepted and then got nothing, like I got my acceptance letter and then was trying to find out more about teh school, talk with the coach, and they completely ignored me :s...

Honestly, the big city stuff really doesnt effect me too much, im more looking forward to being closer to Pittsburgh to watch the Penguins!!! The best seats there cost like 70$, cant even watch a Canucks game for 70$!!!!

Weather wise, cold effects me none, and already talked with coach about that, got winter facilities. Hopefully guna be setting up a date to go visit in a few weeks, everything but my plane tix are taken care of by the skool bcuz of it being a recruitment trip.

Im pretty stoked, play first couple years, get as far with my game as possible, then go to a bigger school, or if i dont want to compete anymore (yea right), come home and finish off my accounting business junks.

Some of the other schools I got accepted to, just WAYYY too expensive, even on top of scholarships, U of Tampa, wanted like 30g's on top my wat I woulda got for scholarship, U of Oregon wanted 25g's a year to name two of the schools I got accepted to.

But anyways... This is looking like a primo op. and if my parents will go for it im ready to go down there and tell him where do i sign.

BTW guys who were talkin about the eastern stuff, as some have mentioned, the town is right along Lake Erie on the western side of the state, I really have no idea how big the town is at all? Anyone have any info about North East?
