How cool was THAT !!

Endeavour launched without a hitch, and we were treated to some extraordinary video coming from a camera attached to the external fuel tank. 15,000mph at the edge of space, and we get to watch the shuttle detach and lift gracefully up and on it's way to a perfect orbit.

A perfect launch.

0-1000mph in 18 seconds.
7,000,000 pounds of thrust.
Five miles per heartbeat.

This shit never gets old.

What the shuttle needs is a hyperdrive. Then we're talking.

It won't matter. The first time we travel at Warp 1 everyone (even Spank) will say, "ooh, aah"! Then after the fiftieth flight to the Regulus system, people (just like Spank) will be like, "whatever - yawn..."

What does it take, people? [In best William Shatner voice] What.....does...it.........take?

I think Spank does that every Saturday night - right after admiring his grill marks...

Even at light speed, it will take forever to get anywhere significant.

To truly travel in space, man will have to be able to manipulate time.

OK - here's a trivia question for you:

What multiple of c is Warp 8?

I think traveling what we perceive as distance will one day be understood as a manipulation of quantum states. We know, for instance, that two conjoined virtual particles separated by any distance (even millions of light-years) will simultaneously alter their spin vectors with no time lag. Once we understand how to apply quantum dynamics to macro objects, we will solve the problem of traveling any conceivable distance in null time.

I'm sure it's been done already. I mean, if we can conceive of it at our infantile level of understanding, think of what other species who have been technologically active for millions of years may have achieved?

We can't, but chances are, if we can conceive of it, it's already been done.

Dude,

Your comments remind me of a third rate science fiction book sold at a flea market, behind the incense and cowbells. Seriously, wtf?

And then you pile the brown stuff even higher with talk of aliens...

Put the crack pipe down.

Congrats on your shuttle launch,

spankdoggie

Dude, I don't want this thread to turn into a tard convention, so just chill out, for a moment, and maybe try not to post again in this thread.

The dumb ass shuttle needs to be retired. The stupid shuttle was close to its prime in 1986/1987 when the crash occured with the teacher in it...

But it is 20 years later, and we now have wanna be alien convention attendees, cheering the flight of an over aged dangerous, and costly endeavor.

The original poster almost sounds like he is happy the darn shuttle didn't blow up... That is not joy, that it didn't blow up, because of its obsolescence. That is fear.

Everytime that obsolete shuttle piece of crap goes in the air, I wonder and fear if it will explode, also bish...

Again, congrats on the launch,

spankdoggie

I wasn't talking about aliens, I was talking about time-travellers. Read the post, and try to understand the brown noise (although I suspect that quantum mechanics has never been your cup of tea), so you can diss me for the right thing.

As for the shuttle: you're right. It is an obsolete, over-budget piece of crap. But it's the best we've got. Which is turds. Third-rate science fiction. I agree. All any human being (me, you, Stephen Hawking, and drunk NASA astronauts included) can do is crawl around on the floor of our ignorance. Some of us just look up a bit more.

Slime had to ooze before it could crawl, and a dog's gotta bark.
